I corrected myself in the last post, saying the last album was shit. Remember, there was also the film score "Danny The Dog". Of couse, Mezzanine was the shit. "Exchange" rules and "Teardrop" still makes me cry. Most people and snobby music critics, however, agree that 100th Window wasn't anything special. But that shouldn't be surprising as the band has had a changing lineup.

Yeah - Change in lineup... One of the guys is left. One third of the band! And he got to keep the name... I really don't see it as Massive Attack after Mezzanine.

Although I've been listening to 100th window. But I definitely wont get that Safe From Harm feeling. It's a different act alltogether.

No problem broham. I don't want to alienate one of a few other people I "know" ( ) that love trip hop like me. And 100th Window isn't "shit" as I said, just not nearly as good when comparing to their earlier works.

And btw, is that a british thing to say "class"? Does it mean "awesomeness"? (e.g. Massive Attack is class). I like confusing my friends with foreign slang.

oh yeah - Lamb - cant believe they havent come up in the conversation yet!

Gorecki is probably one of the all time greatest tunes as well

this thread sent me on a tangent and I realised I actually COMPLETELY missed 100th window - I had some vague recollection but it was bizarre to think I missed a massive attack album - got it online last night and also found my way to the Massive attack forum on their site and it's interesting alot of people there were saying they started off hating it but now it's actually their favourite

it's definitely alot darker - the abundance of doomy politics on their website (all about death and aids figures) probably gives a pretty clear view of his bleak world view these days

+1 for Lamb's "Gorecki" being one of the best songs EVER.

also had to put in a vote for "Dissolved Girl" off of Massive Attack's "Mezzanine".

Shiva, you're in Indy. You should go to the Chicago show. I think it's 9/13 (middle of the week though). FYI.

8O Likewise, I've just discovered 2 albums by Lamb I missed!

itunes preview shits me the way they just show you the 1st 30seconds - even if it's an intro

the review on the last album was seriously underwhelming

the snippets I heard of the one they put out in 2001 sounds ok

I see they put out a remix album in 2005 of the tracks on the first album - so obviously everything since hasnt done too well!

listening back to alot of this - I'm realising what was nice about the genre and the time (mid 90s) was that electronic music was still quite an open book - these people had albums with quite different grooves and tempos

nowdays you seems to get people sticking to a genre far more - which in some ways I think kills a bit of the innovation and creativity

I should mention that Rhapsody (the subscription music service) is the best investment I ever made, and it's where I discovered 80% of the trip hop I listed way above. You can listen to the entire albums and libraries of these artists, and it links you to their influences, contemperaries, and followers. I wouldn't have found Lamb without it, for example (I think I started with Portishead and/or Massive Attack).

Disclaimer: I do not work for Rhapsody or benefit in anyway by suggesting this. Well, maybe karma?
