It seems I cannot record anything

Hi,

I am a first timer in the home studio recording. I got a m-audio firewire 410 interface and Live Delta software. I am using IBM ThinkPad, running win xp with 384mb ram and 1.3 ghz processor.

I did check live preference to ASIO and using FW 410. I selected View and in/out. At the arranger view, I make sure it is the Live in and armed the track 1 (a red dot) Then I hooked up the mic in the interface. Pressed the Record, but nothing happened (no indication it's recording except the record dot in the control bar is red. Is there any other indication it is recording other than this red dot?) In the session view, i could see the signal is buncing up and down following the noise i made. I pressed the playback (space bar) in Arranger view I can see the bar moving, but there is no sound. And if I don't stop it, it just keep moving. I was trying to monitor it through a pair of headphone on the FW 410 interface.

So what happened here? What other steps I have to do? (BtW. I went the computers control panel and changed all those default recording device stuff)

Hello,

Please be sure that you have the latest drivers for your audio hardware installed.Check the Live Preferences Audio tab and be sure that your audio driver type is selected in the Device Type chooser.

The Session View and Arrangement Views operate differently for recording.

Please follow these steps to set up Live for recording:

1. Make sure that you have your audio interface set up as an Input Device in the Live Preferences Audio tab.
2. Go to the View menu in Live and be sure that In/Out is enabled.
3. On a track, choose Live In as the In Type and the appropriate input channels for your audio interface in the In Channel field if necessary.
4. Enable the arm recording switch and the monitoring switch to hear the input.
5. If you are recording in the Arrangement View, press the record button in the Live transport and then the play button to begin recording. If you are recording in the Session View, launch on of the slot record buttons to begin recording.
6. Be sure to disable monitoring to hear playback of your recording.

Please note that you can record in either View, but they are independent from one another and therefore operate differently.

Another thing to check is the input volume of your audio hardware, as you may need to turn the gain up quite a bit for some microphones, and the output volume of the device for monitoring.

I have identified the problem. After hit the record, I didn't hit the play button. That's why it's not recording.

So far with Ableton software.
