I will be a student of music business in a few weeks. Since then, I've been in restaurants doing FOH. I might train to be a cook because I like cooking so much. I've never gotten paid more than $50 for a gig, and I've been DJing regularly for 7 years. Grr. Someday!

I lead an organized gang of technology evangelists covering the Mountain and Pacific US time zones...

...if I do my job right and the clients keep coming back - I hit the mid 90's to barely low 100's (yr)

I live 4 blocks from the Pacific which basically means I'm the financial equivalent of someone earning $25k in Oklahoma : )

I DJ on full time, live at home and make minimum 200 bones a week (thats the result of being hired under my father whos entertainment company got hired at the bar for the last 2 years!) I also do private stuff, was once a DJ for Stanton Final Scratch and traveled alot, now Im tryin to get more gigs in Montreal cause DJin the same place for 2 years straight gets a lil boring. But hey, I dont pay any bills ecept my cell, and I have a set-up that Im almost completely happy with. Oh and occasionally when venues decide to pay my band I get some doough!

I went to law school right out of college and then got a job at a big law firm...which I hated!!!!

Quit that and now I do mortgage loans and invest in real estate. Gotta say that the money is pretty damn good. Especially from the real estate. I figure that I should be able to retire completely by the time I'm 35 and make music all day!!!

I'm determined to get paid for having fun, and work 2 days a week and have 5 days off!
EVERY TIME hambone1 makes a post like this I start to think about doing it myself...

Damn - 5 days off a week?!?

had the exact same thing happen to me last year mate. 3 months off. i thought i was going to record 2 lp's at the rate i normally work at when on i'm 9to5 (e-learning software testing) but give me full time to produce and zilch, i just play videogames and get bored. it's fucked up.

I fix and build synthesisers. Which means I get to play with lots of musical gear all day.

There are worse things I could do. :D

i work for the UKs number one music instrument retailer during the day and teach kids in run down shit hole areas how to make music with Ableton at night in various youth centres.

for some reason i seem to be making some money at music this year, i was commisioned by the arts council here to write several pieces of music inspired by my work with kids - they paid well and i spent all the money on star wars toys and dvds

Do it then!

I realize most guys on the forum would rather perforate their eardrums with an icepick, but I'm making £1k a week DJing one 4-hour party.

That leaves lots of time for sitting in your bedroom working on that multi-million pound/dollar record deal, VST wanking, forum time-wasting, or whatever else you want to do!
