Warping tracks!

Post by Christopher Malhiot » Thu Aug 17, 2006 9:12 pm

A few questions here:

1. How do I warp a track that has a long intro? I can do it when the beat starts first but not when there is a long intro. I know I can set the starting point on the first beat, but what if I want the intro in there.

2. When a track is warped and lets say the bpm that you have set is much slower then the actual bpm of the track, how do you get the track to stop makeing that vibrato sound? I am pretty sure there is a way but maybe not.

I know, I am a newbie!

Thanks in advance for any help,
Chris :D

1. Warp it from the start of the song after the intro and move the start flag to the intro.

2. look for the * and the 'divide by' buttons in clip view, those make the song go to a twice as fast BPM (eg 60bpm becomes 120 bpm) or twice as slow (60 bpm becomes 30 bpm).

If the project is at 90BPM and you want to mash in a song at 60/120 bpm it really won't work, the range is too much unless you find a way to filter the flutter which really won't happen without significantly changing the sound in other ways.

My project is at 134bpm right now, and the song that I am trying to mash in is at 139 bpm, and the 139 bpm track is fluttering really bad. To me the bpm difference is not that much. I have heard tracks before that were played at a slower bpm and they did not flutter, thats why I am wondering if there is a way to counter that flutter. Let me know if there is. Thanks for the help. :D

to counter the digital stretching, look down in the Clip View (bottom) and set the warp mode for the clip to Complex mode.

to quickly and consistantly warp intros:

- find first clear beat that starts an 8 bar section of the track:

- right click on the grey marker at that beat and "Set 1.1.1 Here"

- warp from there as normal to the end

- zoom out and look at the number markers on the track in Clip View: you should see negative numbers on the grid -- right to left: -8, 16, -32 etc)

- go back to the earliest negative number that is a multiple of 8 or 16 (preferably 16) and double click that marker

The marker will now set to 1.1.1 and all the other markers will shift accordingly. You intro should be perfectly warped (zoom in and check to make slight adjustments if necessary),

AND with proper cuing you should be able to mix out of the last track, with the intro in perfect sync, and the meat of the track after the intro will 'drop' (phrasing) exactly where it should

You probably need to change the warp method. In the clip's properties change it from Beats to Complex and see if that helps. You can also try some of the other methods like Tones or Re-pitch, which should be more processor friendly. Have a look at the manual, it describes the pros and cons of each method
