Brussels by Night - Raymond van het Groenewoud remix

Post by bodo » Thu Aug 17, 2006 10:22 pm

So, I entered a remix competition for the classic 'Brussels by Night' by Raymond van het Groenewoud - who is pretty well known in Belgium, and in Holland.

The song is in Dutch, a pretty obscure lyric about... er you guessed it Brussels by Night. It was a big hit when it came out in '81 (as well being a title track for a popular - albeit bad - movie). I always liked it a lot, it had a fresh sound and a nice melancholic feel, without the cheese.

To my suprise I ended up in the finals. So now there's four of us, competing 'till the 1st of September.

The winner gets his release on a small-run compilation, on several play-lists, and gets to perform two dates. Sounds nice to me (there's no money involved, I don't mind).

Which of course leads me to the following situation, 'cos the entire promotion around it is in Dutch, I would still love some of you gentle folk to have a go at voting for me.
You'll have to fill in your name, surname and the answer to 'how many votes will the winning version recieve' (in order to be able to win a golden record) and an email address but that's all really.

You can listen to the releases here - mine's the corny titled 'bodo's late night stroll version'

you can cast your vote (from 8/14 - 9/1) here

Pretty stoked about this, as I had no hope for getting selected, and it was the first time I ever did a remix, plus the first time that I did a 'song'.
There was a broadcast on Radio 1, and Buscemi (the musician, not the actor) claimed mine was his favorite version. w00t! You can listen to that broadcast here stream - in Dutch

So hopefully you'll enjoy my humble contribution to belgium's pop history, and thanks for the support.

Cheers,
bodo
