Evolution X-Session

Anyone using the Evolution X-Session controller? I can't seem to map the buttons in key edit mode. The midi in indicator in Live shows it is receiving something but which ever session slot or mixer effect parameter I choose does not map?

I think you should be trying to map the MIDI parameters in the "MIDI MAP" (functions turn blue) not the KEY MAP mode (functions turn orange). The KEY MAP assigns funtions to your computer keyboard only!!!

Hi

I have midi mapped the controllers ie. knobs but was under the impression that the keypad buttons on the X-Session could be key mapped to Live to trigger clips etc. Is this not the case and only the computer keys are mappable?

ok, not related to the thread but the controller.

i just bought one of these things and once i've stopped relying on the class compliant usb drivers and put the proper evolution ones is fairly good for the price.

my problem concerns the lack of a crossfader in live XS 2.1 that ships with the device.

am i missing something obvious here? is there a way to turn the crossfader on and off in Live? (i've contacted evoltion but they maintain that there is a xfader...i hope it's just me being dumb)

i can run the live 3.0.2 demo (with a crossfader) and have no probs (well aprt from latency of audiocard and midi conspiring to prevent the xfader being as quick as a real dj mixer-like xfader)

any clues?

in answer to my question above go to view and tick crossfader

y'know for 80 quid with Live XS the Evolution Xsession is a bargain

evolution support are pretty good too

Hi Robin

What operating system are you on? I tried installing drivers for Windows XP but it won't let me as it says it is already compliant. The latency for triggering clips from the midi buttons is not good under the built in class compliant drivers.

i'm using XP and yes i went through the same process but wasn't happy with the results so i had a look around on the evolutoon site, registered and downloaded the drivers (which appeard to unified with other devices like the uc33). the drivers were labelled for my device and XP.

it's a two stage process which you need to follow carefully. once on the difference was very noticable.

I've been eyeing up the X-Session for a while now. At http://www.grexultra.com there's the MXF8 crossfader DJ controller that looks way better built and a completely different beast altogether. Anyone using one of these?

i like the look of that as well.

it's not a midi interface tho and is not powered by the usb port, and doesn't come with Live of course.

still looks great tho, that witha firewire audio/midi interface would be very nice indeed.

The crossfading of up to 8 channels, beat gate along with punches looks interesting. Wonder what the heck the ratio sequencer does though. Looks built like a tank. The crossfader on the X-Session didn't work for me, no curve and very unlike a DJ fader would work.

well it's the latency that gets in the way for dj like crossfading on the xsession.

so the mxf8 is likely to suffer the same prob with a usb midi interface and consumer audio card imo

Also the cross fader in Live only seems to cut between the sounds very near the centre point. Maybe good for scratching but I would prefer a more gradual transition from each track to the centre.
