midi learning

Post by teeto » Fri Aug 18, 2006 7:26 am

Hi, its my first time here and i have a very important doubt that has not been answered through many forums.
I have a bcr2000 controller. I enter a new midi instrument in live and map this instrument midi to the bcr2000 controller. Well, is there any way of when i want to use this instrument in another live set in the future not to map this instrument midi to the bcr2000 controller another time? Could i save this midi mapping for future uses?
Another doubt: i am thinking of buying the Korg MS-20 plugin that comes with its hardware emulation with all midi mapping associations made. In standalone it would be ok but, as live makes its proper midi mapping, i suppose that as a ableton live vst i would have to make the midi mapping again. That takes me to the first doubt, becouse if i cant save this midi conf i would have to map it again and again.
If Live 5 cant solve this problems, will Live 6 do it?
Thanks
TiTO

This depends on a few things: First of all, some vst plugins have "hard-wired" midi controller setups already, so that if it receives cc#35 for instance, this will modulate filter resonance, etc.
Secondly, others, like Reaktor, will let you alter the assignments completely and save them with the particular instrument/ensemble.

See the above - afaik the Korg instruments have their own particular midi assignments, which have nothing to do with the Live automation/remote setup.
mbp 2.66, osx 10.6.8, 8GB ram.

So if i have understood, there are midi association through Live and midi association through the own learning midi method of the vsti.
The solution would be mapping the midi controls and after it use the own function of the vsti for saving that mapping?Through live or through the learning method of the vsti? is it the same?
If a vsti has its own mapping (becouse you have used its learning method or becouse they were there initially) and you try to map through Live, what happens? are they replaced?
Im a little confused about this theme.
Thanks for your answers!
