Hello,
I work currently on a macintosh but I'll buy a PC very soon.
I currently use Live 5.2 and SooperLooper which is with some things

I would like that you user of Live you describe me:
- which computer you use and his configuration(size of the RAM, speed
of the processor and model etc)
- which software you used
- which operating system (home or pro)
- which soundcard
- weaknesses of your setup
-...
Ciao and thank you

why are you switching to a pc, if i may ask...
12" powerbook 1.5/1.25gig ram
live 5.2.1/logic
os 10.4.7
moutu ultralite
i don't see it as a weakness necessarily, but it calls for a workflow in which
i sometimes have to create parts in sections and then simplify them
(ex:render midi clips to audio clips) in order to work within the limitations of the
gear. but it can be like that with all gear...we always must work within it's limitations. i'm not lusting for another computer at the moment, as this one is quite portable and very reliable. i do have yet to find a controller that i like, i use a pair of bcr2000 and fcb1010 for now.

I use a AMD Athlon X2 4400 cpu
2x 512mb ram running in dual channel mode
I use live 5 and many vst's
I use xp pro (and backup with Acronis to a hidden partition)
My soundcard is RME Hammerfall DSP and the Multiface
I love my current computer. It is very fast and very stable. I can run my synths at very high sampling rates (88.2) most of the time with out running into walls. Make sure you look into motherboard chipsets as there are issues. I currently use a ASRock 939 SATA2, I did allot of reading before going with this board. The ULi chipset is proving to be very good. nforce chipsets can have issues with audio work so look out. This is a HUGE topic and I could go on and on. But to keep it short I will recomend the ASRock 939-SATA2 and be on my way.

Main Box is not Portable. Other than that it kicks ass no complaints.
the laptop is almost two years old, it's been a champ but I'm likely going to look intoan updgrade probably based on my tax returns. It runs live 5.2 fairly well, but I can't load it up the way i can the main box.

well, I have a macintel.........ya know they run windows right?
If you are going with a pc there are some considerations.....
MOBO........man, this is the killer.....too many options and very few are recognized as "audio" boards. I recommend that whatever you get, make sure you have plenty of pci/express slots......there is a very good chance you'll need to install your own usb/firewire card since most mobo's built in just suck!
Get AMD for your processor.......about a year ago, they just started to blow intel away.......very good these days. If you can afford it, go dualcore x2.....I think they are pretty reasonable these days. Live 6 uses dual proc support and it's just SICK!
It's not sexy, but get a really powerful power supply. At least 450watts these days. Antec is good, btw, they make nice cases too. Sonata II is a good choice I believe......very very quiet.
Get the BIGGEST drive you can afford, make sure it's a 7200rpm.....I think almost all are now. The two drive thing is not as important as it once was and there are recent tests showing that the bigger.........the better(500 mb for example)
a gig of ram is the minimum......if prices are not too high right now.....try and get 2 gigs......1 gig each and run in dual channel mode. This seems to help allot for daws

- weaknesses of your setup
lack of firewire ports. i do have an Expresscard to 2x Firewire400 adapter though. And it works great for my external hard drives.
I also wish that i could write Dual Layer DVD's.
And i am waiting on DSP Quattro to be ready for Universal Binary.
Otherwise, its all the machine i could ever want.
