Mixing between songs?

Post by patrickkidd » Sat Aug 19, 2006 11:36 pm

I want to produce live using all of my abletone live sets that I have produced, has anyone else found a way to do this besides networking a couple/few of computers like turntables?

I want to spend an hour making music and avoid going live set => cd live set => cd live set.

Combine sets, some peoples' sets are staggering hugely ginourmous.

Some guys also keep a CD player going in the event of a computer crash or to kill time while loading a new set.

Maybe live 7 will have some kind of playlist function that can auto-load the next live set as the current one plays on, with the ability to use the crossfader into the new set. Perhaps it would require lots o' more RAM though, it would be a cool concept to incorporate into live.

Yeah, this would be a huge advantage. Since you have to set up your live sets before each gig you can't make a transition between two songs without a cd or a complete duplicate of your current setup. This seems like a natural direction to go in - I can see playing whole sets in live if there was some kind of set transition feature.

i don't understand... can't you just setup live while someone else is playing?

In reply to the last few replies:

You can't setup live while someone else is playing if you are the only person playing. Simply cross-fading between sets is pointless, since you should just be using CD's or records for that. The whole point is to be able to play pieces of your songs together. Drums from here, bass from there, etc.

Setting up one big set seems like the way to go, and I've heard that idea from quite a few people. The only problem with that is figuring out the midi controller setup. The biggest problem with that is re-mapping your midi controllers to no tracks and instruments. Ideally you'd be able to get everything to work with a controller that has 8-tracks and trigger buttons.
