Midi Controller help

Got myself a M-Audio Ozonic midi controller yesterday. Got it home and expected it to plug straigt into the usb of my laptop but the connection is the wrong size for a usb. Am i doing something wrong or has it been sent with the wrong leads? any help appriciated as im new to this side of technology.

The Ozonic connects audio, MIDI, and power via 6-pin Firewire, not USB.

Firewire is built-in to all Macs, but not all PCs (especially low-budget ones). Some PCs only have 4-pin Firewire, so you'll have to use an adapter and the external AC adapter for the Ozonic. You can get 6-pin PCMCIA Firewire cards, though. Some of them won't have enough power for the Ozonic, so you'll have to use the external AC adapter.

Im using it with a laptop you see. Been told if its not built in or theres no slot in the laptop then its pretty useless

If your laptop has no Firewire or a card slot for a Firewire card, I guess you're screwed. I've seen USB>Firewire adapters, but don't know much about them.

Will the seller take it back for a full refund?

you should be able to power it with 12v DC power adapter - just make sure you get the right size of connection - it says this on M-audios site

You still need Firewire for the audio connection.

Got it off ebay for 250 so i guess ill have to cut my losses and offer it back to the guy for 20 or 30 quid less.

My laptop is a packard bell notebook (i think the model is R)

No probs. Is it possable to fit firewire onto a laptop? Im still paying insurance for it and its free fitting and discount on parts. If it was possable then it could be an option. Im really not up on this sort of thing so sorry if i come across clueless. Its cos i am lol

Is it the easynote R, shown on this page?

If so then the firewire input is on the front, left-most connector.
If not, could you then possibly check the product info written on the unit?

Ive had a close look at all of them on the page and cant find the one i have (which is silver). Ill check when i go home and see what model i have but theres definatly no connection like that one you pointed out there. Really appriciate the help here btw.

it should be if you have pcmica slot.

google laptop firewire card and see what you find.
If you have any doubts ask Packard Bell what the score is

I think you would be aswell getting firewire fitted if you are planning to hold onto the lappie for a while.

hope you can sort this out.
