trigger-value

Post by servando » Thu Aug 24, 2006 11:32 pm

Its possible to send values to ableton from the keyboard?

I have made a patch for video that you can manipulate the parameters of the effects from midi controller or sending fixed values with the keys, for example: send 100% to REd or send 0 to blue.

I thing, this feature, could be very interesting for performing without controller. (for me it´s much better and faster and funy than mouse..) because most of time, we decide a value and always use the same.

I´m going Ars electronica and I will have a mini-concert, I wouldn´t like to travel with the fucking controller for only performing x minutes and for free...

In the case of video, i have the problem solved.. assigning fixed values to some keys and pre-defined envelopes to other keys for moving or slow transition effects.

If anyone knows a solution....

thanx!

I'm not sure I understand you completely, but you can definitely have Live send out the values for you as long as the video app understands midi.

Just use midi clips on a midi track and route that track to the video app via a midi interface (if the video is on another computer) or midi yoke (if the app is on the same computer).

sending fixed values from the keyboard

Post by servando » Fri Aug 25, 2006 11:34 am

Hello!. thing I want to do is controlling Ableton from the keyboard, then, how can I control a fader or an aux send with the keyboard, (like i am doing now with isadora.) without using the mouse?.

I prefer not to use other programs while performing with live, at least, while i don´t have a macbook pro..

thanks

Are you talking about a computer keyboard? You can map a computer keyboard to most functions in Live, but it won't work very well for smooth values such as faders. For on/off values like firing clips it is perfectly fine though. Just press the key button in the upper right corner and map away. Have a look in the manual, there is lot of other interesting stuff there too.

Thnk you michael, I think that 1º I must try to find related topics on the manual.. but I really don´t believe so much that it´s possible to do "trigger value" on Live, this is a feature most common on other softwares like Max or Isadora..

thank you for you patience supporting my bad english

bye!
