there's a slightly louder output.
8020a have dual 20w amps (high/low) per speaker.
8030a have dual 40w amps (high/low) per speaker.
and since Genelecs tend to 'break up' once you push them past about 85%... its good to have the extra headroom the 8030A gives you.

Speaking of subs - Blue Sky Mediadesk is in this price range too, and a lot cheaper than the Genelecs + sub. I have heard lots of good about these, local shops don't have them in stock though. Anyone can compare?

I considered Pro desk but then 8020+sub is same money , more flexibility- can use the 8020 while on tour and getting used to Genelec makes more sense since they are standard in most studios I work. Last not least esthetic factor, they are the only monitors that dont look ugly.

I had a set of mediadesk as second reference.....they sound amazing for the money, specially in the lower levels, but the stereo image genelec 8000 offers can not be compared to any other speakers i have heard so far.
stop talking.....start working...

Macbook pro. Logic pro/Live. Access Virus Ti. Genelec 8040. my bread and butter

I'm partial to my mackie HR824's. The flat reponse and sound quality are excellent!

I just have to say, i compared the HR824´s to the 8030s....i have to say that the hr824´s sounded very harsh and weak in the lower regions.....it might have been the room, but the were next do each other and the 8030´s sounded better and clearer...

that's cool. It's about preference. When I first used the HR824's I felt that my mixes sounded a little harsh as well however, after A-B'ing my mixes through alternate sound sources I only learned that the monitors only spoke the truth in my mixes. I was used to mixing on some old Alesis Monitor 1's that in my opinion did not reflect the true mix. With the HR824's I hear a lot of subtle imperfections that I need to fix (or not because they mayadd a certain character to the track).
I am in no way knocking the 8030's because they are great too! I'm just saying if you have the chance listen to the HR824's with a rough mix and try them out. Try to avoid listening to them with a finished retail CD.

How did you know I have whites?
I find them all great looking- love Scandinavian school of design- like NordLead 1 with those slanted corners, though it is just that all pro speakers are so disgustingly insulting to anyone with a trace of esthetic sense, so there is no much of any comparison. I thought they will match white Mac in case I get one ( they have to get that PCMCIA though FW is not good enough for my midi demands) they "disappear" against the wallsI am also tired of that black obsession by equipment makers. It is such heavy feel.
