Marvin Gay - What's going on, I cant say enough good things about this album.
Talking Heads - More songs about buildings and food
Portis Head - Dummy
The Modern Lovers - The modern Lovers
Iggy Pop - Lust For Life

These have all had a huge impact on my life.

Almost an impossible task to name the best albums ever..
it`s sort of mood dependant.
but some albums I`ve had on heavy rotation for several years must be:

Future Sound of London - ISDN
The The - Mind Bomb
Orbital - Insides
Ju Ju Space Jazz - Shloop
Biosphere - Patashnik (eh.. well all the Biosphere albums really..)

Very tricky question. I go through phases where my musical taste changes/develops, and I would give a different list. Here's some albums that have either gripped me musically or just influenced me directly:

Max Richter: The Blue Notebooks
Massive Attack: Protection
Okna Tsahan Zam: A Journey in the Steppe
Keith Jarrett: The Melody at Night
Lemon Jelly: Lost Horizons

... so many more

The most stunning, moving music the world will ever hear. However, they are so precious to me, and will make everyone on this forum feel so inadequate, I leave them in my bank vault, only to be released long after my death.

I will be mourned, but my music will make me immortal.

I just couldn't stand the adulation. Fame would just feel so dirty and cheap.
When it goes public, it will eclipse the Beatles for many centuries to come as the music of an era.

I must stop typing and get back to my ukelele and cowbell to finish off recording a few tracks for My Sixth CD of Demo Tracks - by me.

I had this thought earlier today. If I couldn't make music I wouldn't want to listen to it anymore. it would just make me dream of having my laptop and electricity again.

sorry man, i'm lost on what your saying.
the point i was trying to make is if I was stranded for the rest of my life, i couldn't handle having only five albums, or any fixed number for that matter. i'd need everything, or nothing. life is variety, and chaos. I know I'd end up rather droning to the lapping waves and the birds that putting on something I've heard everyday for the past <since when>. electricity doesn't factor for me, nor does a laptop. the most exstatic moments I have are without anything, caught in the "zone", when a noise catches your attention, and the harmony, and pulsating rhythm take you to that majickal place, the place you've only been in your dreams. no recording can take you there. because that's life, that's music.
