Anybody know how to set up the korg microkontrol to be used in the mode where Live is "learning" the midi info instead of programming the templates?
I am an experienced live user but not using a midi controller I am completely lost and can't seem to set it up at all, I am totally lost when it comes to MIDI. Korg calls it "native Korg" mode and I can't figure it out.
I am using the micro control via USB and just want to use it like I once used my oxygen 8 kybd, it was easy but that doesn't even work now!
Please break it down for me I am using a powerbook with OSx, and am freakin!
setting up MICROKONTROL midi HELP!!!
The trickiest thing is that each scene can send midi data out of two different ports for each section (encoders, sliders, joystick, pads, keyboard). Think of the MicroK as a collection of 5 different midi devices and that will make more sense. You can even do things like send the Keyboard and Pads to Port A, and the Rotary and Sliders go to Port B
If you want to, for example, set up a slider to control something in live, you need to make sure the slider group it is sending out of port A or port B, and then tell Live in the global settings to use port A or B (or both) to match.
Then you should be able to assign midi control messages using the learn mode.
The default "Live" scene Korg provided was less than useful, imo. I've started creating my own to control both Live and Reason rewired from within the same scene and it is working quite well once I got over the initial frustration. The midi implementation chart for your is your best friend.
Good luck

MICROKONTROL easy set up for USB
I figured out my problem with the Korg MicroKontrol set up via USB only on my Powerbook. First you must make sure the mac is recognizing the Korg, you go into applications/utilities and Audio/midi set up and it will auto-scan for devices and the MicroKontrol icon/alias should show up, if not hit "scan for midi devices", YOU MIGHT HAVE TO CHECK THIS EVERYTIME YOU BOOT UP or unplug the MicroKontrol(only if live isn't finding the controller)!
Now I set mine up in the prefs for midi in live as "input 1 so it says MicroKontrol PORT 2 and it worked!!!
There are endless assignments on the micro so you gotta mess with it!
good luck, If "I" can get it to work anybody can!!!!!!! -hwh3
