It's works fine and everything it's great.
But after the bassline loops a few times i'd like to play another part.
Obviously i can't do that with overdub on.
I turn off overdub. Now I can't hear the bass i played previously. Nor can I record a new line.
There has to be some way in which I can suddenly play a new line on my keyboard and the new one starts looping.

i came over to ableton from a version of emagics logic audio. i loved the looping feature in that software. i did a search of the forums here for 'looping midi'. this is where i came to.
i guess the question i have is i am in session mode. i want to set a 4 bar loop and have it just looping. but i notice that it keeps going beyond my 4 bar loop. i setup for midi to record with ovr etc and it seems to not loop. what am i missing?
i am trying to set it so i can hit record play a 4 bar loop and not have to hit any key and it kicks out after 4 bars and plays it back. is it possible? or do i actually have to physically hit a button ever time?
looking to autoloop when i record. not sure if ableton can, but i thought maybe you guys can hook me up with an answer
thanks!

If you just want to record into a four-bar midi loop, then sure - it's easily done - simply double-click in an empty clip slot, and a 1-bar clip will appear. In the clip properties set the length to 4 bars and start overdubbing into it.
Simple
You can even have different lengths of empty midi clips in your template set, ready to start overdubbing right after you load.
