Need a "create a song" type tutorial...
i look at live like an artists pallet and canvas. session view is your pallet where you premix all of the colors of your painting and come up with the concept then you hit record and fire your clips and create a little painting in arrangment view. you then can go to your canvas in arrangment view and add all of the glazing and detail techniques. and this is something young jedi you must do and learn on your own. it is more fun that way. come up with your own stylee and do it.

Funny thing is, you can learn a lot just by looking at the structures of tools in electronic music.
For instance... if there are knobs on a synth for adjusting envelope parameters like amplitude ADSR, then that should tell you volume is VERY important.
If it exists on the panel of an instrument, chances are it's an important compositional element.
Ableton Live DAW is another HUGE step in that direction...
The first sequencer I ever saw that had an entire half dedicated to recording loops (session), and with all sorts of functions to modify loops.
Just looking at Ableton's features will tell you a lot about making elec. dance music.
Of course, I still think better videos are a logical step on the road to mass musical enlightenment.

My god some people are lazy. There is more information out there than one person could possibly digest in a lifetime. I guess the problem is when newbies think of it as "learning Live" rather than learning about composition, arrangement, synthesis, multitrack recording, mixing, or what various effects do, which are each their own separate vast subject that applies to what you might want to do in Live. If you learn about any of these things, Live is a 99% self-explanatory tool. It's like you want to build a house and you're asking for a tutorial on how to use the hammer.mylkoa wrote:Sometimes I wonder if there isn't a conspiracy to hide knowledge in this way. I wonder if some people aren't hoarding the wisdom to keep it in elite circles, or maybe to make money some how. I guess if I had a doctorate degree in electronic music, I would not teach the world about synthesis and thus keep a cush job.
My god some people are ignorant and rude. There's lots of information about everything on the interweb that doesn't mean it's easy to understand or sort through.melocoton wrote:My god some people are lazy. There is more information out there than one person could possibly digest in a lifetime.
Try looking up these words in google and see what you get.

Not sure who that question is directed too, but I'm not looking for any reassurances.djfm wrote:so in a way you want reasurance that what you are doing is the right way?
Techniques for a technical craft like computer music making is an art and a science.
I think Video Tutorials should focus on the art and science of making music with Ableton.
The tutorials that come with Live are very well made, IMHO. And the videos I have seen on the Live Power series were also good. However, there's alway room for improvement.
I believe instruction is a facilitator for understanding, not a direct cause.
Understanding ONLY comes from within. So in that way, a purist view that learning should be done without teachers is certainly valid.
However, Leibniz and Newton both had teachers, as well as became ones themselves. They trusted a system of education as well as self-reliance.
I trust in their judgment and life examples.
Cheers,
Andy
