convolution reverbs - who uses them? got any good impulses?

Post by forge » Mon Sep 04, 2006 3:11 pm

I've just downloaded the marvelously free SIR and some impulses and I'm getting the feeling this is one of those things I really should have played with more

any good convoluted stories to tell?

I just bought wizooverb and am loving it. I found that SIR was not stable enough. For check out ......

I LOVE EMS plate reverbs IR's on the echochamber page. After getting accustom to convolution reverbs it is hard not to look at all other reverbs as special FX, if ya know what I mean.

hey thanks

the annoying thing is Waves now include IR lite with the Gold bundle which I already own - but I dont have the WUP plan so I cant get it :?

yeah I definitely get the feeling SIR is not really real time - but these impulses sound awesome

I love convolution reverb, but the latency thing always left me feeling like "meh!". Has that gotten any better? Does SIR run well without a bucket-full of PDC?

oh the latency is pretty ridiculous
it's definitely a render/bounce thing

I'll give freeze a go - but I hate using reverbs as inserts - I dont know why but I can never get the mix as nice using dry/wet as with sends - it's some kind of psychological defect I have

There's a free one here
"convoboy"

http://www.elevayta.com/

And if you register for $19.95 you get lower (23ms) latency and some other features. How cheap is that?

Wizooverb's latency is pretty low. up to about 500ms i belive. I mostly don't notice any delay. But that is not for live use.

My only real experience with convolution reverbs is with Kontakt and Space Designer in Logic Pro.... Space Designer in particular is really effective sometimes... maybe not the most natural sounding reverb possible, but still pretty darn useful.
