Live 5.2.1 Bug fix update is online!
Live is such a cool program and the mainstay for my music work BUT….. I have never had so many stability issues with any program ever!
I am starting to call it "Unstableton"
I have a Dell 9300 with 1Gb ram and 100Gb HD which I ONLY use for music production and DJ’ing. Besides Live I have Serato Scratch Live which has never crashed ever and a bunch of plugins, soft synths, Samplitude LE and that’s about it. I use a Focusrite Saffire Sound card and a Remote SL Zero midi controller.
I just upgraded to 5.2.1 after 5.2 got into a terrible state of unreliability. Hopefully it will fix my stability problems
Stability seems to be worst when dragging clips from the browser to the session view.
Any suggestions to maintain stability?
What’s the story with unstable LIVE?

Well, thats funny. Because 5.2 is the stabalist version i have ever installed on my system. I used to have problems with clicks and pops in my render and they all went away with 5.2/5.2.1, and i also used to have a lot of issues with audio glitching on playback. Those are all gone as well too..
Shit, i can run 30+ tracks and 10+ VST's on ableton without a hitch. I'm running a AMD Athlon 2500+ with 1.5gb of pc2100 DDR Ram, with a optimized XP Pro dailed in for music.
I have no complaints or issues.. Smooth as can be.

As a live user who has experienced hardly any problems, I'm tempted to believe that this is a plugin problem. Which ones are you using that cause the program to crash?rishi wrote:I have a Dell 9300 with 1Gb ram and 100Gb HD which I ONLY use for music production and DJ’ing. Sqook, I dont think it is the plugins because it happens most frequently when using Live as a DJ tool and specifically when I drag clips (mp3 at 320 kbps) into the session view whilst stuff is playing. Typically, I have no external plugins or synths running at this time. The mp3's may be whole tracks.
Maybe it is something I am doing? Are there any guidelines for dragging clips into the session view whilst Live is playing? EG: only warped clips or use only WAV's / AIFF?
Thanks for the feedback.

It's not a plugin problem. 5.2.1 crashes regularly and consistently for me simply by creating a new project and recording new audio tracks. For the most part I've gone back to 5.0.3 but sometimes I try to use 5.2.1 for the Tranzport support. For the past hour I've been working on something where I recorded one audio track into Live and I'm trying to edit it in the Arrange view. It crashes every 5 minutes or so when I click or drag a clip. At other times it will crash after I've been recording multiple tracks for a while. No plugins, no editing, just create a bunch of tracks, record, stop, arm the next track, record stop, etc. Eventually it will crash after 15 or 20 minutes.
If you can spare the disk space, use AIFF or WAV. You will get better performance this way.rishi wrote:Sqook, I dont think it is the plugins because it happens most frequently when using Live as a DJ tool and specifically when I drag clips (mp3 at 320 kbps) into the session view whilst stuff is playing. Otherwise, I'd suggest submitting a proper bug report about the issue to the abes. They are generally quite responsive in investigating matters of this sort.

Any chance that 5.2.2 will fix my ReWire problems?Alex wrote:Hi folks,
Unfortunately Live 5.2.1 can randomly crash on a Mac if any of the available MIDI controller surfaces (Remote SL; MackieControl, ProjectMixIO or Tranzport) is selected.
This will be fixed within Live 5.2.2 which will come very soon.

/Alex

Has this bug been reported anywhere official other than buried deep in a few of these forum threads? This is a pretty big deal because I have been telling them about this for a while and the only way I got a resolution was by reading this thread. Had so many shows go wrong because of this, and now I am just not using my 25sl. I think lots of users need to know about this bug.
