Regarding Simpler and the Essential Instrument Collection

Post by klangsulfat » Tue Sep 05, 2006 7:48 am

As far as I understand the Essential Instrument Collection will be based on multi samples but can also be used with Simpler.

Does this mean that the Simpler version inside Live 6 does support multi samples (of course in a playback-only manner)? Or will Simpler play only single samples from the EIC? With other words: Is it possible to use EIC in Simpler without restrictions?

It's an updated Simpler that will handle multi samples in playback only.

if simpler can handle multi-samples than what is the point of buying sampler?:?

I really want a sampler for orchestra samples. But it sounds to me like simpler would be enough.
Sampler would be an interesting tool for sound development but I'm happy with the plugs in live and some externals to mangle my sounds.

because you won't be able to edit the sounds in simpler, only sampler

Hi there,

Simpler can read the multi-samples of the EIC because its encoded a certain way (like a DAT file). Simpler is still a single layer (one sample at a time) for user authoring.

Sampler supports multi-samples (imported or building your own).

hope this is helpful.

cheers,
dave

Hey Dave. Does this mean that there is a format that Live supports that hasn't been announced yet?

Isn't the EIC just a pack with samples and simpler (rack) presets?

I haven't heard anything about a proprietary format for EIC samples. Don't know though. I hope the EIC-Simpler thing will be solved with racks as playing back un-layered EIC samples would be pointless.

that's not the way I understand it. I haven't seen it either but we'll all know soon enough. The main point is that Simpler is not a multi-sampler / layer player though. that much I'm sure of.

From my understanding, this isn't a new format that Live supports, its just some encoding of the samples so that Simpler reads them and you can play them (at once with multi-layers). They are also copy-protected I understand, more ike a Refill or the type of DAT file that comes with a Rompler.

The idea was to give anyone buying the box a great instrument collection whether or not they buy Sampler.

hope I'm not adding confusion....

cheers,
d
