I'm using Audacity with great success.
It's available for most common platforms.
And it's free software.

stay tuned

It's not free, but you sound like you already bought it.

i have found that a software name Amadeus is the most close equivalent to sound forge for cutting loops samples, fades etc...
i do not use many of the onboard effects etc... as i prefer logic for those things...but for a small progrmam to manipulate waves and do destructive editing in the old soundforge/pc style there is little i have found that works as well as sound forge, although as i said Amadeus comes close..

one question: anyone running soundforge on a MACBOOK now using bootcamp or whatever??? DOES IT WORK well???
spread the sound

Wave Editor is pretty good

But there is something about CoolEditPro what others miss. This app is one of the few why I still put up with windowz.

I like SoundStudio 3 for simple recording/editing. It is as easy as in CoolEdit to record.
Adobe has talked to make a Mac version of Audition(they bought the CoolEdit), but not yet. By the way Adobes added video support is pretty handy.
On mac Bias Peak (vith video=DV) does nice job too.

If you need a wave editor, like Soundforge on PC, I recommend you try BIAS Peak. I'm using v4 and it works great! Very similar functions tu soundforge... :P
