C4!Live v1.0.0 preview: using a Mackie C4 for Live control

Post by dizzib » Fri Sep 15, 2006 9:36 am

Hi all!

I thought I'd post a preview of my upcoming application C4!Live which lets a Mackie C4 control Ableton Live 5. Here's some pics...

...and what it looks like on the device itself...

Features include:

- define multiple user-definable layouts per plugin e.g. for Operator you might have a layout per A, B, C, D section with navigation to other areas.
- whenever a new plugin is selected, C4!Live will rescan all the parameters and display them on the C4 using the appropriate layout.
- no need to learn any XML or hack text files!
- create a user definable library of command elements, including labels, navigation and midi-Cc.
- segment LEDs can be defined as Single, Boost/Cut, Wrap, Spread or On/Off.
- define output renderers e.g. display value 0 = "off", or a range 64-127 = "on"
- create static layouts (similar to C4 commander funtionality).
- define midi-CC custom value list e.g. so v-pot presses cycle through values 0, 30, 60, 90, 120, which can be rendered to "Sine", "Tri", "Square", etc
- layout files can be exchanged by the user community.

Please note that this is still under development in my spare time. I hope to get an alpha test version out soon at which point I'll be looking for people to try it out. Anyone interested?

Cheers,
Andy.

No Mac version is planned, sorry!

C4!Live Prerequisites
--------------------
- a PC running Microsoft Windows XP or Windows Server 2003
- a Mackie C4 unit
- Ableton Live v5.2
- .net framework v2.0. You can download the free redistributable x86 package from http://msdn.microsoft.com/netframework/ ... fault.aspx
- a virtual midi interface. I recommend MidiOverLAN as the most stable solution but you could also try loopBe. I don't recommend MidiYoke since it seems to mess up the sysex messages.

I think you'd get more action if you changed the name of this thread. just a thought.

maybe something that implies mackie as part of the discussion. or is that what C4 is implying? I don't know... just trying to help.
It was as if someone shook up a 6 foot can of blood soda and suddenly popped the top.
