Cover Flow feaure - attention Ableton programmers

Post by mg75 » Fri Sep 15, 2006 2:33 am

The new iTunes 7 Cover Flow feature is an amazing visual tool. It helps you go through your song collection just like flipping through your vinyl.

Lets get something similar for Ableton Live !
MacBook 2GHz 2GB RAM 100GB 7200RPM HD
Live 6.03
Logic 7.2
Peak 5.2
Audio Hijack Pro

how the fuck would you implement it? live is so much better with its utilitarian UI.

horrible idea.

All they have to do is program a hide/show button and if you don't like it... don't use it. DJs will have a much better time going through their tracks and producers can give their songs a little more than just color-coding.
If Live ever implements video mixing, then the feature would be great as well.

I used to DJ vinyl and there is nothing like going through your crate and seeing each record.

I'm enjoying iTunes 7 like you have no idea, but it sounds like it'd be too much overkill to program in Live just to have a nice visual feature. Also, the implementation to make it work with Live's workflow would need very good thought.

It was as if someone shook up a 6 foot can of blood soda and suddenly popped the top.

Check out "Rapid Evolution". It's a database system for your tunes, and includes album cover browsing - it's also skinable, so it MAY be possible to make it look like an extension of live...

I'm just starting to get my head around it.

(Oh, did I mention it also scans your audio files and returns the key, BPM and length of your tracks?)

Use itunes as a browser for your songs in Live. Drag and drop is supported...
