compressor into ch insert on mixer prevents clipping?

a compressor with TRS (RNC 1773) going into "channel insert" on a mixer will limit\prevent clipping\distortion when using for eg the mic pre`s on the mixer?

or do i need a seperate preamp for that???

No. The insert point on a mixer is always post-preamp, so it won't do anything to prevent clipping of the preamp. If your preamp is clipping you should turn down the source. :wink: If your incoming signal is just too hot & you can't turn it down, you want a 'pad' for the input - you can buy inline pads from a pro audio shop (usually XLR-XLR).
