New Hardware, Worse Performance...?

So I decided to do a little upgrading. I bought a further 1GB of RAM (giving me 2GB all up), a basic graphics card - Radeon 9550 - and a firewire PCI card assuming it would boost my already adequate performance of Live 5...

And so now i'm getting constant static sounding output all the time. This has never happened to me before (aside from when I overload the program with plugins etc.), but is now happening almost every time I use Live.

It doesn't seem to be associated with any particular action or plugin and once it does happen it won't stop: even if I start a new set, the static will continue.

I can only assume there is some kind of conflict going on. Has anyone else had a similar experience with any of the hardware I have mentioned? Here is my setup also if it helps:

P4 2.8Ghz
2GB RAM
M-Audio Audiophile USB
XP Home SP2
Live 5

what exactly did you buy in terms of ram? are all your sticks matched?

what are you using the firewire card for? (don't see any FW devices on your list)

I bought 1GB Samsung DDR 400 RAM. Both sticks are exactly the same and I had been using one by itself without trouble for a few weeks now.

The firewire card will be for a new soundcard (eventually) and also for a video camera should I do a bit of editing down the track. For now it's not being used at all.

it's a total pain in the ass, but i'd recommend going back to your original config, making sure it still works, and adding hardware one at a time. that will allow you to troubleshoot properly.

at least take the firewire card out and see if that helps - maybe move it to another pci slot.

also i've heard that video cards are one of the first things to check when having hardware troubles - so...

Thanks for the suggestion longjohns. Turns out it was a faulty stick of RAM.

I removed it, and everything seems to be going smoothly (touch wood).
