Live and Hip Hop

Post by enthawizeguy » Thu Sep 21, 2006 3:33 am

Alright... so ive been on here a while and never here anyone talking about making hip hop tracks on live. Besides just djing does anyone actually make hip hop beats using just live and vsts? and does anyone use live to make hip hop using other combinations like with an mpc or something.. I have been using an mpc for the past 7 or so years and have tried jumping to software before and didnt like it but i just bought live and am looking forward to using it as my main production piece. post links, experiences etc... thanks in advance.

p.s if anyone has any videos of them making hip hop on live or can put them on you tube i would be very grateful.

People here are making all sorts of stuff and using MPCs too, posting every 5 mins isn't going to get them to reply faster, everyone's spread out across the world. Be more specific about what you're doing, what you want to do rather than vague give-me-all-you've-got questions. 8)

1-U can make all the types of sequenced music with live
2-U can make all the types of sequenced music with Mpc
3-U can make all the types of sequenced music with Mpc and Live combined
choose what you want.

I rap and produce with live 5/6 beta. I can't seem to use the other sequencers to make a beat with but ableton. I have a px-7 which is loaded with beats that I need to transfer to ableton live.

I don't know if it's just me but I never got into mpc feel when I had my mpc 60II. I was using my emu px-7 for making beats and sometimes my mpc for mixing samples of our voices like I had a turntable. I'm not a sampler so I guess that's why.

I do some rapping/jazzy hip-hop/groove stuff. I've never used an MPC, always made beats in software. I'm still new to Live but I love it for what I do, and Impulse works great for me.

There's no such thing as "which sequencer can do what" anymore. Take your pick and see what works for your preferred workflow. Any package out there is pretty much capable of anything...

yea i mean i was just wonder if yall made any hip hop beats on live. del is supposivly doing his whole album on live... so ive heard. Ive yet to figure out how to layer my drums in live, or the trick to get more impulses so I can have chopped samples, hopefully ill figure it out soon. I am thinking about using it in conjunction with GURU or Battery 3 ( u can adjust the pads on the new one and do rolls etc.)
