i want to thank everyone who came out on wednesday. it was a huge success and the bar owners loved the people and the vibe that came out, so they have now green lighted me to have wednesday nihts for as long as we want. there were even a few women 8O which i didnt expect. all of the guys that performed did great, and the artists were as different as their software usage.

although most of the guys used ableton live, evan morris was using reaktor with a self built controller and submodern was rinsing the dual electribe setup. and one cat used the dual fruityloops setup. all in all, very diverse, educational and entertaining. [many thanks to those that shared their stuff; astronout, submodern, evan morris, substanz d, deep kutz, datu rocc, and paul rae...]

now we are moving up to this week, and so far we've got 3 slots filled one of whom is a local artist/friend of mine named Jaswho?. this cat is bad ass. he's ben on the scene here for years and is looking forward to doing some of his latest for th backlit crowd.

so hurry up and put the finishing touches on your set and come on down and drop it on folks, because if a song just stays on your harddrive, no one ever gets to hear it but you...

whatever you want to play. literally, whatever. any genre, including noise art or sound sculpture... it can be any type of electronically created and presented aural art, INCLUDING but not limited to music. i just feel that by having a space for all noise/musical art, they tend to cross pollinate and that is when it really gets interesting; i could see [hypothetically] a guy who produces hip hop, coming in and hearing some reaktor based sound sculptor and find that he digs the sound and starts incorporating different elements into his productions...and vice versa...

This is OUR lab, to do and play what we want, as artists, and anyone who comes, comes for that reason. not because everyone does house of techno. so what you play is entirely up to you particular artistic vision.

oh see now I'm keenly interested. I love the cross polination of music as you put it. sounds like a very open minded crowd.

check my stuff out and let me know if you'd be interested in having me come out. I've played san fran before but it's been a while. I've played sacramento plenty. I don't know if you know the store robot speak in berkley but I used to play shows with donald/chachi jones.

i actually went by the robot speak store over on lower haight, the other day [they get mad props for being the only place i've ever seen, in the US, that carry the faderfox products]

just check out the list of remaining times at myspace.com/backlitloungesf , email me with the time slot you want, and show up. thats it. and this week should be kinda mad because of the lovefest overlapping with the summer music conference crowds, so who knows what'll happen.

yeah robot speak kicks ass, they get props simply for being the only computer music store I've ever seen.

This sounds really cool! Makes me wish I was still in the area. :( But - I do have a few friends there still, I'll tip 'em off to what you're doing & see if they want to drop by.

his set was cool, I never heard those electribe modules sound so good. Nice guy, totally open to explaining his set and talking about the vacuum tubes in those boxes (they do very little).

yeah electribes are extremely cool pieces of gear. I used to have the er-1 but I sold it cause I started using the computer more and more, but now that I'm getting back into sampling stuff and not just using soft synths then I wouldn't mind having htat thing around again.

though microtonic is not to far off of the er-1

i just posted up the first backlit lounge webisode on the profile and at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xPY94mRuKDE

we're gonna do this every week and interview everyone that performs [sorry datu rocc, but i'll get you in there this week.], as well as various interesting stuff about the setups, the soft/hardware, the scene, the techniques, etc.

also, I won't be doing this hippie deephouse live looping stuff at the backlit. I will doing some synth/brokenbeat improvisations with my sidstation.

jonisfaster, if you gigged with chachi then perhaps we have met?
