free range is definitely the way to go.

I remember though, that when I first moved to Switzerland I drove past a free range egg farm every day on my way to work. The chickens had a nice life. Runnung free in the field. That summer was the hotest summer in the Swiss record books though and there was a minimum of shade in the field. I remember seeing the chickens huddled together under a tree trying to cool off. There wasnt enough room for them all ... poor bastards.

I thought it ironic that these free range chickens would have done anything on that day to have been indoors. My wife and I jokingly imagined them to be having a protest .... marching with placards reading 'wee want to be battery hens'

But seriously, free range is the way to go.

But more to the point ... WHEN COMES ABLETON 6?????????????????? (and dont tell me september :-) ... when in september?)

"Free range" is a term designed to con consumers.

Yep, if you want eggs by a more humane means, get them from a local person who just keeps chickens where you can see the conditions/chemicals used.

The government constantly lets industry leading corporations change definitions for terms such as "Organic" and "Free Range".

The regulations for what constitutes the term "Organic" was recently lowered for these corporations at the protest of smaller companies who were adhering to more rigid (actually organic) standards.

When the smaller companies tried to then label their products as California Organic (implying the stricter standard, like a car that has Cal emmisions), the larger companies sued to goverment to not allow any other organic labeling beyond USDA organic, saying it would confuse the consumer.

Of course the government went for it.

Just one example of how, no matter what form of government you have, or how fiscally conservative you are (har har har), corporations must be watched and regulated......

Animals know pain and fear.

They also know the stress of being out of their natuaral environments.

Doesn't take a phd to suffer.

After seeing this video, I've decided to use tinned, pickled or powdered eggs only.

What?! Treat hens "humanely"? There's not fucking humans!

~Frankly I don't give a shit where my eggs come from, they all taste the same and I rather not be paying for a hen to be put up in a pent house suite.

Things like this drive me fucking crazy... All the human suffering in the world, people dying every day, and you worry about some stupid hens. Put your time and effort into helping HUMANS.

Don't go posting this PETA propaganda around before fully understanding that they are a affiliated with many terrorists and put down more animals every year than they actually save. By all means love and protect animals, but PETA is one of the worst organizations out there.

This is not about Peta it's about what animals have to endure to be our food.

Regardless of what you might think of Peta as an organization, I think if you take the time to watch the videos on their website you will have to agree that those videos show the gruesome truth about modern food production, something that you don't see in advertisements.

Regardless of what you think of any organization, you should gauge and test all information, because it's all propaganda.

And even if that organzation were to be completely off, that does not mean that the underlying moral concept can be safely ignored now.

I certainly don't agree with Peta on everything.

As far as Peta putting down animals. they provide and support humane euthanasia and do provide means to do so for counties that still put down animals by barbaric methods (carbon monoxide, poison, gun shot, etc..).

BTW - What do you mean by terrorists? ALF? They are about as scary as alf.

Oooooooh those terrorists might steal my companie's rabbit - oooohhh I'm shakin in my evil stupid bloody heartless boots!

No one ever said striving to be a better culture would be easy or simple.

Genecide is horrible-but we do not ignore murder, murder is horrible-but we do not ignore rape, rape is horrible-but we do not ignore slavery, etc...

Besides, animal suffering is so very much linked to human suffering, the #1 cause of early death in the USA, a contributor to global warming, famine, etc...

Here's some reading material NOT from the animal welfare side of things:

A true statement and excellent option.
