Hello Live Developers,
I'm not sure if this feature already exists but what I would like to see is an option to activate automatic beat matching for the initial playback of a live session.
At the moment, I use live to record my improvised drum patterns with overdubs of both natural and electronic drums. Usually I get into the feel of a rhythm in my head but it takes a considerable amount of time to get that into live so I can continue to develop the song. What I find frustrating is that I have to either program with the mouse or tap a foot petal to set the initial tempo value for my session. Often times this process requires some trial and error to sort out and ultimately consumes a considerable amount of time that could have been better spent on more inspired performances.
Although the quantized record and play back feature of clips is an essential feature for me, I find it cumbersome to try to do anything outside those imposed restrictions when an idea is still in its infancy. Essentially I would like to record a full clip with no tempo value programmed, then upon re-triggering the same clip... the re-trigged point will mark the end of that clip will commence the session play back at the tempo of the clip just recorded. After the tempo is set and play started, I would like to overdub additional parts on separate tracks but quantized as it normal. Another scenario that this might prove useful is to have live adjust the session tempo automatically to match the tempo of the first imported clip. Is there a way that I can get past this difficulty?
Thanks,
Jordaan
