question about note lengh plugin

Post by vandeloow » Tue Sep 26, 2006 9:20 am

for me the most big feature live6.

i just tried it out, the usability to create grooving synth seq. is amazing :D

one little question:

after resampling the midi seq. and drag it back to the original miditrack, the note lengh
is again static when the note lengh plugin is on. so the plug is working only in
absolute mode?

Lovely plugin, indeed - we're using it to create the much-requested Midi delay units.

The note length is absolute, yes.

i only found 1 use, but i'm quite happy with it:
create a clip that plays a bassline
now drop: 1 note length, 1 arpeggiator, and another note length, group the 3 devices.
now map the "Length" parameter of both Note Length to a single macro.
invert the mapping for the Note Length BEFORE the arpeggiator.
now turn the macro => instant basslines based on your original one (you may have to adjust the min and max for the Length)

I was one of those asking for midi delay ... and yes, midi note length can do that !!

Set up a chain of 2 midi note length plugins. First one is set up to trigger on note-off, second one is setup to trigger on note-on

first plugin length & gate parameters will control delay time, second note parameters will control the delayed note length

of course, you can rack this with a dry signal, add many delay taps, pitch up/down, scale velocity of delays etc ....

you can even build a step sequencer this way, although delay time doen't extend long enough to cover 1 bar.

couple this with an arpeggiator and you can get delicious syncopated sequences

I'm missing delay feedback (within a rack) and longer note length settings for longer delays

Actually, to make rolls you need a velocity plugin and an arp. You place the velo. plugin first, set it to a fixed velocity of 1.
Then you place an arp behind it. Turn on velocity decay, set the value to 127 and play with the decay time/rate/gate....

I've found dozens of ways to create new rolls and such.
If i tell my friends about all the time i spend with racks, they think i'm visiting porn sites all day.

riddle me this... i don't have the beta.

this is what i'd like to do:

have 4-5 tracks of stuff going on and assign a keyboard key to each track so when the key is depressed and held the track is muted. on release of the key, the track is unmuted. i also want to be able to do the inverse... start off with mute tracks with pre-arranged stuff, depress a key to hear the track and release to mute.

i know i can assign the mute, but then i have to press the key twice to turn off the track and turn it back on and i don't want to fiddle with knobs... just turn on/off with 1 key stroke.

can note length do this?

This could work. But you'll need a 3rd party midi app (or the IAC driver on mac) to reroute the note signal to Live's remote MIDI input.

so it's really just a note that can trigger "on release", not the full blown midi signal. maybe i could work somethin with midi ox/yoke. i've been wanting to do this live for a while now. i can't believe there's not an easier way. i wish there were something like the crossfader that could return on or off on release.

please excuse my ignorance - but how do you invert the macro mapping?
i've only just downloaded the beta......

for those interested, you can download the corresponding rack here:

let me know if you got any interesting results.
