i am beginning to incorporate ableton live into my set up, but i am still using the turntables i just can't get rid of the warmth. i am using a m audio as my interface, but i am looking into an audio interface with firewire. everything is running through my outer mixer(mackie) and my inner mixer(vestex) is hooked up to the tables. i am using microkontrol for ableton.

How I like to see it
2 tt's in a dj mxier, the other 2 channels are for live channels from a motu ultralite (2 ms latency @ 44.1Khz, 64 samples), the send/return from the mixer also routes back and forth in the motu and is used for effects/loops controlled by midi (trigger finger, uc33, bcf2000 (until my custom one is ready) > depends on what I want to do)
The effects are done in live , because of it's versatility/flexability
Basically, everything can be effected/looped/broken down in live, and it contains all off my digital tracks

I was interested last year to see BT DJing with live and connecting six outputs from an M-Audio device (cant remember which) to a DJM-600 for three channels of mix. Seems like a nice way to work - I tried it afterwards using one myself via my MOTU 828, using 4 outputs - two 'decks' with the crossfader assigned and two channels of loops / fx / stuff via the other two faders. Works well for me!
There's something about *all* midi controllers that just never feels as good as a real DJ mixer fader and eq-pot wise.

I'd like a small dj mixer style controller (3 or 4 "channel") made by Mathias at Faderfox. His build quality and service is great, the designs aren't quite spot on for me though. I still love my lv1 however.Nixon wrote:As long as they keep making this plastic junk only, yes. There's something about *all* midi controllers that just never feels as good as a real DJ mixer fader and eq-pot wise.
edit: my setup at the moment is a xsession and lv1, maya 44 usb (soon to be a audiofire2 if i can find a review!). That's it other than the 12" pbook.
Equipment
i use pc laptop (til i get a powerbook later this year)
Presonus Firebox soundcard - very good
Evolution X-Session
However, I'm trying to link a CDJ1000 through my soundcard into LIVE so that I can effect it, save using an EFX1000. I sometimes DJ as double act and the other DJ uses 2 x CDJ1000s and EFX1000. I want my own EFX on LIVE to use with a 3rd CDJ. Does anyone know how to set it up in Ableton?
