uninstalling live

Post by msticman » Wed Sep 27, 2006 12:30 am

this may seem like a dumb question. ive got live 5 and the update 5.2.2. can i safely remove 5 without messing up 5.2.2? or does it need the first one to work off of. thanks

I did something similar a couple days ago had two version on the same drive and deleted the older version. Seems to work ok, no problems here.

no you don't need the old one. you can have as many versions of live installed as you'd like. it's probably best to keep a few different ones, in case a new update ends up having a bug or something. but it's up to you.

maybe keep the installers, even if you uninstall the actual program version

yes, but remember that maybe at some point the appropriate updates for that version may not be available online anymore (the boxed one presumably being 5.0.0)

(?)

maybe you could burn them to a cd or dvd or something before you delete them

but i'm just talking in general i guess - certainly if you've got the original boxed version of 5 installed, you could safely get rid of it! 5.0.2 or 5.0.3 would be something I would think twice before deleting

install the update and it will create a new unlock config. then you can delete everything related to that version. if you delete everything related to that version before you launch the update you will have to reauthorize.
