Record Quantize??

Post by roby » Fri Dec 23, 2005 9:56 pm

Hi

I was wondering if I'm the only one with this problem: seems that Live does not 'record quantize' properly after recording midi notes. I'm away from my Live computer but from what I sort of concluded was that when you start a fresh recording, meaning that Live is stopped, you arm a track, hit record/play and then record, the notes get quantized.
But if I arm a track and start recording while Live was already playing, recording is never quantized or just badly off, even when I think that I played as closed to the beat as possible for Live to quantize the notes properly. I find myself having to stop the sequence, opening the clip and manually quantize the notes.

Am I alone in this??? I'm using the last beta b7, I still haven't tried the new 5.0.3 release, but I doubt that it's solved there. Come to think of it, it's been present since the introduction of MIDI in Live...

Confirmed!!!

This glaring oversight is a major pain in the buttocks which I thought would have been fixed by now in Live 5.03

I've personally emailed Ableton support regarding this issue in the past but never received an official reply.

Live is real close to be #1 in the DAW game but it's annoying glitches like these that will always set it back a step or two behind the big boys like Sonar and Logic.

Hi, I can reproduce this bug every single time. Here's how you can test it:

1) Arm a MIDI track for record and set your start/end loop points (make sure you have record quantize set 16th note value)
2) Turn on the metronome, hit 'record' and then start the sequencer
3) Play a note in your MIDI keyboard or computer keyboard that's as close to the metronome as possible. In other words follow the metronome's click.
4) After record you will see in clip view that what you recorded has been fixed properly
5) Now keep the same MIDI track armed for recording
6) Start the sequencer
7) Press the record button on the transport above
8) Now, again, play another MIDI note along with the metronome click
9) When you're done stop the sequencer. Notice that what you recorded does not get quantized properly, even when you did your best to record along with the click of the metronome like in example 3) above

I just tested this right before writing this post to triple check and again I was able to reproduce it. This last test was done on 5.0.3

I have this problem as well, and it's one of the things that makes Live useless for performance, if I want to use MIDI instruments (which I do).

Live 5 seems great on paper, but the MIDI implementation is so poor that I'm sad to say I'm sorry I purchased it. It simply does not work for live looping!

I'd be very surprised if they didn't.

Abes, is there a fix in the works?

Hi folks,

sorry for the delay.
We are a bit closer to this one but still investigating this issue.

As you can easily reproduce this one ... it would be helpful if you could mail me the resulting Live set.
Please also provide me with your forum name and the name or link of this thread.

thanks and regards,
/Alex

i have the same problem with midi timing...now with 5.03 is better but not a final solution...i can't do live midi drum programming as there is a little offset in midi recording...
and yeah...i always get that first midi note stuck there, not sounding and difficult to delete.....
