psilocybin's mystical properties scientifically confirmed
I'm influenced by a thing I read years ago:
A guy reported fantastic sensations and receptions of the truth while on trips.
He agreed on having himself recorded during the trip to catch what he was experiencing.
The recording said something about "There is a scent of gasoline throughout the universe".
In some dreams I may find myself to experience being or acting according to a truth or profound insight. But after that, I realize that it was a fabricated feeling, like a cliché.
Nevertheless, it makes me feel good for some hours.
About "drugs":
- Long term effects
- Social effects
We are here talking much about the here and now trip.

Think of where your psyche would be if she kept whupin you.

these statements are common, it's very hard to convincingly refute them without sounding like one of those religious nuts. But I'll try.
There are certain cliches about the psychedelic drug taker and their behaviour, cliches because they are generally true.
EG: they become very 'involved' with their music, the become enamoured of 'we are all one in the meta-being' pop-psychology/budhism, they become more aware of the validity of other peoples points of view, they become more involved in persuits such as permaculture, they become more aware of nature and go camping and walking outside their habitual cityscape, etc. ..
These long-term post usage behaviours above are normally a massive change from previous entrenched behaviours which are (generally) more in line with western society, IE : destructive and insular.
These new (beneficial ) activities are driven by the more generalised of the 'insights' they obtain from their drug experience, Usually the new activities are viewed as bringing more happiness to the individual and to others connected with the individual.
This new study about Psilocybin simply confirms these outcomes, I would be interested in any large scale study which presented results of "tedium, monotony and cliche" as the majority of long-term outcomes. i think that would be an unusual study indeed.
There's something inherently attractive about the idea that the 'insights' we get from a trip or a dream are less than they seem. I don't know if it is something about the left brain right brain split - when the left brain re-gains control it strives to undermine any information which doesn't fit established patterns.
As a counterpoint to your favoured 'not of any import' analysis I would say that experimental outcomes indicate otherwise. But anecdotal evidence of teh sort you mention has a grip on the public imagination alongside "he thought he could fly, then he peeled himself like an orange" type anecdotes. Attractive, but unrepresentative.

Right. If there ever was a scientific approach to the subjective experience of hallucinogens (the) McKenna ('s) did it. One has to laugh at the mediocre and silly scientists of today. They will be farther from a real understanding of the subject matter as can be imagined. I read "the Invisible Landscape". In this nearly incomprehensible book the brothers touch the quantumphysical aspects of the effect of the entheogens on the neurofysiological workings of the brain and the subjective consciousness of the human being. And that in synchronistic correlation with seemingly causally independent phenomena in the outside world like the origins of the Chinese oracle of the"I Ching".
There is something about the electron spin resonance during the transmission of nerve signals from synaps to synaps which changes the holograpic essence of the thought and awareness chain. And this change resonates as deep as in the helix strain of DNA, the blueprints of our evolutionary fysiological and thereby psychological state of being in the now. And in this way these "Food of the Gods"may well be the mythical elixir which will eventually spark a next evolutionary step forwards/outwards to the well-understood "Übermensch".
So what's the news all about?
I don't chat.
Don´t forget "The Hasheesh Eater" by Fitz Hugh Ludlow. A cientific masterpiece about getting high.a must read for anyone interesting in mushrooms is Terence McKenna, especially:

I just got Bill Bailey's Cosmic Jam DVD for my birthday, he has a nice bit:
"Of course psychedelics have been used for years by artists and thinkers to gain insight and creativity. Aldous Huxley experimented with mescalin and chronicled his experiences in "The Doors of Perception". Of course, that wasn't the first thing he wrote. The first thing he wrote was my brain is melting!!!!!! five thousand times. But it was the book that the critics latched onto."
