Auto View of the clip window/4 way controller scrolling...

Post by bohemian » Tue Feb 24, 2004 6:06 pm

I've got my controller set up to scroll through the scenes with a couple
buttons on a PCR 50-

What would be cool is if I could set up 4 controller buttons to go left/right and up/down
across the tracks and scenes to individual clips.
If this was combined with auto display of the clip editing menu, I could scroll
through all the clips and instantaniously view the clip details...

I'd like to spend more time looking at the beautiful women in the audience, and less time
mousing around the screen- a trackball would help this I guess.

Any ideas,

Now, that's a damn fine idea, particularly being able to just scroll around and view the clips and clip properties at the bottom.

Can't you use a utility to map your MIDI controller to the arrow keys?

The key to making this work, at least on my Mac, is to use option-arrow-up to first select which area of the interface is 'active'.

Or am I misunderstanding?

Hadn't thought of mapping the arrow keys with a utility-
will do some research- now to figure out how to get the clip info to automatically show up...

What do you mean? When I scroll around clips with the arrow keys the clip view displays the clip information and waveform. Are you after something different?

Possible solution...

Kenan,
I think you may have missed my point- arrow keys on the qwerty keyboard do exactly what I
am after, only I would like to map buttons on my controller to accomplish the same thing.

As of now we can map the scenes to scroll up and down with controller keys, but we cannot map controller keys to qwerty keyboard functions ( the arrow keys for example).

I just downloaded the Bomes Midi Translater and am going to give that a go...

This may work ...

Midi Translator does the trick-almost !

Post by bohemian » Fri Feb 27, 2004 3:15 am

I downloaded MidiTranslater and got 4 controller buttons to work
as up, down, left, and right - qwerty keyboard keys to move around
in the Session clips window and show the clip editing info at the bottom as
I go and It works great-
However, I mapped the qwerty "enter" key to a controller button
to trigger the clip I select and it just moves to the the clip to the right
of the clip I want to fire.

I tested the midi-translator outside of Ableton- in a Word document
and the controller button acted like the "qwerty" "enter" key. Returning
to the next line. This means that Ableton must be the culprit-

Any ideas or comments- moving through the clips with my controller is great, being able to fire them after i select the clip would be the ultimate-

Thanks,
Pac
