MIDI latency in live

I’m running live 4 with a korg triton extreme I’d like to record loops from the triton in live. I’m having a problem with latency of the audio coming back into live. The output from the korg triton goes into an Electrix Filter Factory and then into an Electrix Mo Efx and then to Live. What would be the right way to go about setting this up so that when I hit record in live the audio coming back in to live is in time with the loops that are already in live. I tried putting a time (example -1.78ms) in the sync delay output box in Live’s preferences but I can’t seem to get everything in Sync properly. I don’t know if this matters but I’m using a Digidesign 002 Rack for the soundcard. Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

If you're using live to sync the triton with midi then sending the output of the triton/fx back into live, the best way to compensate for the delay is with the midi delay setting in the ableton preferences for your midi output port. I do this with several external synths and my midi delay times are typically between -70 to -90 ms....

should mention that the best way to get the timing perfectly locked, is to record the synth's output onto one channel, then edit that clip so the beats line up, and then simultaneously monitor the external gear on one track and the recorded synth while you adjust the midi sync delay time. Since they are the exact same sound, you will hear phase cancelation as the timing approaches syncrony.

It seems like everytime I hit the spacebar Ableton and the Triton sync up a different way. So I'm thinking maby it could be a midi cable or the interface, it's a Edirol um-880. Anyone have any ideas. I'll try your idea but if theres somthing else wrong then I'll just be wasting my time.

when you adjust the midi time delay make sure that you click on the output port you're using to sync the triton, it took me a couple hours to figure out YTF the midi delay setting wasn't changing how they synced, you have to click on the port you want to adjust, before you adjust the midi delay. Another thing to bear in mind when syncing external sequencers is to make sure that the song positions are being reset to zero before you start them playing. I have my x0xb0x synced to Live and going back into a Live audio track to be processed and I always have to make sure I hit rewind or stop on Ableton to make sure it resets the pattern position back to the start on the x0xbox, other wise you get weird behaivior where they start at different positions when you hit the space bar. Good-luck. It's a pain in the ass, but once you get it synced it seems to be fairly stable (knock on wood) and the results of processing external gear in live are amazing! The whole recording thing may seem like a pain in the ass, but it's really much easier than trying to beat match it perfectly by ear, but then again I'm no Disc Jockey

No luck I set everything up like you said I'm monotoring a kick drum that's playing in live. I'm also monotoring a kick drum from the Triton throught my mixe Ect.Ect..on a track in live. I've selected MIDI in/out channel 4 in the Prefrences MIDI/Sync dialog box, right now theres no sync delay and I hit the stop and play buttons on the screen with the mouse, the timing is all over the place sometimes the Triton and Live even sync up. I just tried downloading the latest version of Live 4 well see what happens.

use the triton as the master.
from what i've read...lives clock is not good when syncing gear to it...however, when i sync'd my live and my cs6x synth to my adrennalinn (master)...everything was super solid...no more random drifts.

I can only work with ableton as a slave. It is not a good master. (pc/v5)

i use live as master and mpc as slave and its rock solid actually
