Live 6 Issues (clicks)

Post by mark h » Sat Sep 30, 2006 7:25 pm

I've just been playing around with the Live 6 demo, am getting pretty regular "clicks", and although i'm only running at about 20% CPU everything freezes up when I load new instruments.

I'm running a 1.5 ghz G4 Powerbook with 1gb RAM and plenty of HD space available, straight out of the onboard soundcard, latency set pretty low, so I don't think it's a hardware issue.

um, not much else to say really, everything else is working fine.

same problem here! so i think it is a problem of ableton live 6

and i have been using the live 5 demo with no problems. i have a ibm thinkpad t60 with the maya44usb. so there should be no problem with the hardware here.

try adjusting the buffer size?
It was as if someone shook up a 6 foot can of blood soda and suddenly popped the top.

Same problem, but mine starts after a while. On a Pc. Like it's filled it's cache and then once it pops it doesn't stop (and start getting worse).

Asio buffer at max, and pluggin buffer at max.

While I use it in the same set in Live 5 with latency at max, but pluggin buffer in "as audio", and not 8000 plus.

Someone?

And, why, just after like, 5, six mins?

I've noticed clicks at various buffer settings that I never got with Live 5. These happen when adjusting screen elements and more often with Live across a dual display. These seem related to dual core support.

My setup: Athlon X2 4800, Abit AV8, 2 GB Corsair RAM, WinXP Pro SP2 with the Athlon dual core audio hotfix installed, and usual audio PC tweaks in place.

Same here! 5.2.2 never had these issues but when I need to have the latency lowered I get a horrible sounding glitch and tons of clicks.
Dual 2.5gig G5 with 2.5g/ram, DP 4.6, Live 6, Kontakt, Battery, Guitar Rig, EWQLSO Gold, Ivory, Pluggo, Waves, Tritone Digital, PSP, tons of free plug-ins, DFHS, BFD, Event ASP8's, Trigger Finger.....and a bunch of other shite.

My Live 6 is not starting right when I launch some clips... I tryed playing around with everything, and still no luck. I get really slow starts sometimes and then some clicks here and there. Sometimes when I'm in the midi map mode and exit it my audio just will stop and start again. I have a MacBook Pro with more than enough power too play Live 6. I had to go back to Live 5 and keep on doing my work in there until I get my issues fixed with live 6. I love the new features, but what good are they if the program doesn't work well... I hope it's just a simple bug?

If you are on a multi core/processor machine, please check if it makes a difference to disable multi core/processor support within Live's preferences.

Furthermore it is important to know if these clicks depend on the buffer size or not.

/Alex

I had the buffer size at all different levels, but one thing I noticed yesterday is when I quit out of Live 6, and saved my template it informed me that the pervious template was made in live 5, so it ask me to make a completly new file for live 6. I went to work, and tryed it with no midi sound card hooked up and it worked fine. I'm using a MUTO ulatraLite with a DJM-800... would my soundcard have some issues with Live 6?

Then, will you disable your Midi?

And what about my Soundcard which IS a combo Midi/Audio? 8O ... And I use the controllers A LOT!

Forgot to mention, not dual-core, but HT. In 5.2.2, I could use 9 complex clips with ping pong, beat repeater, plus reverb and beat repeater in the busses, and a filter and a redux in the master, plus a saturator. this, only for my dj set.

For producing, I could use it as much tracks as in other sequencies, with Vsts, and all. And now, a single vst in arpeggio mode, pops...

All latencies, buffer sizes and all tried.

Hi everybody,

my colleague Alex has posted some hints (see http://www.ableton.com/forum/viewtopic. ... 825#350825):
1) Check if all you Audio, MIDI, plug-in settings are the same like in L5

2) Check if you use same Live set like in L5

3) Disable Multi core/processor support (if you have a multi core/processor machine) to check if it makes a difference

4) Disable the file cache settings via Options (Win only) (...)
http://www.ableton.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=47411
If none of those helps, and you're using midi controllers, your problem might be a midi output issue. To check for this, please try the following:

5) Disable all midi output ports in the 'MIDI' preferences tab

6) If the problem persists, remove all MIDI mappings from your Live set (you may want to use a copy of your work for this test). You can do this most comfortably using the midi mapping browser which appears on the left of the screen when you enter the midi mapping mode.

Regards,
Andreas

Which tab is this under?... is the in the midi/sync tab?

so do a save as and use a different template?

Yes. In the top half of hat page, set every Control Surface to "none"; in the bottom half switch everything off (you might leave the input ports on, they should not matter)

Just do a save as and then delete the mappings as described (there is no need to change your template, it is only used when you create a new document).

Andreas
