[gck]Initializing/Launching Live 6 Takes 2-3 Minutes

Post by nebulae » Mon Oct 02, 2006 4:11 pm

When I first boot up my machine and I launch Live, the app hangs at the "Initializing Application" stage for about 2-3 minutes. It's much longer to load than any previous version. Any ideas as to why this is happenening? Has anyone else noticed this behavior?

I've removed the VST plugins folder, as well as removing the preferences and the cache files. Live still takes 2-3 minutes to load each time. What's going on?

It seems that Live 6 will launch normally when networking is turned off. This is bizarre...any suggestions?

I have isolated the issue. It only occurs when my network card on my laptop is enabled. If I disable it, Live will launch normally and quickly. So the question is what is Live trying to do over the network, and why?

Trace the network traffic. It might be it's looking for updates or ringing home...

I don't have any firewall software installed. How do I trace it? Also, am I the only person with this issue?

And could this be some strange WinXP SP1 anomaly? Would installing SP2 fix it? I know SP2 has an entirely new networking stack.

The task manager shows performance in the networking tab. if should be zero
during Live starting.

Hi nebulae,

having checked your log files I'm not sure what happens exactly. Could you check if you have any links (file shortcuts) from your desktop to network resources? Or more general: does any of Live browsers point to a folder in which links to network resources have been visible at Live shutdown?

Regards,
Gregor

Gregor, I have no network resources active anywhere on computer. While I do have access to network files, I use my start>run and then type in the path. Can I send you my latest log file? This just seems very bizarre...

The last time it happened, it hung for a good 4 minutes.

Hi nebulae,

I saw it in your log file. It took sometimes even longer ...

To limit the possible things: Could you set all browsers in Live to a top folder directory, say "Workspace" and close all folders in them (using the "Close all folders" context menu). Terminate Live in the normal way (e.g. Ctrl-Q). Then restart Live and see what happens. If it just takes the same amount we have to look somewhere different.

Regards,
Gregor

Gregor-

I did what you said, and so far, the problem seems to have gone away. If it returns, I'll send you my log file. Thanks for your help.
