Library, sets and projects

Post by peeddrroo » Mon Oct 02, 2006 7:55 pm

how do you deal with projects within the library?

up to now, i saved all my new sets in a different folder, called "L6 sets", under c:, cause it was a beta, and i didn't want it to interfere with my Ableton Library.
i thought that i could now save my sets in the "Sets" folder in the Library.
but each time i save a set, it considers that the project folder is "Library" (meaning it rebuilds it each time i "save as"), and i can't have project folders within the Library.

did any of you have the same problem? where do you save your Live6 sets?

This is a good question, because I am about to buy, and like getting things set up correctly at first, instead of implementing post hoc.

I never really got the file management thing down in the betas.

before doing anything, i made sure i had backed up my L5 Library on an external drive, so i'm not too worried.

i don't understant how it works though. and yes, i RTFM.

up to now, i didn't manage to create a project within my old L5 Library.

Yes, this seems to be a major issue. Quite scary I think. I haven't downloaded 6.0.1 yet, but obviously the beta is dead. So I must, but am going to be extremely careful.

None of my stuff is that good anyway, so if something happens........jk.

In fact, the Abes really need to tell us what is going on with this, because I don't recall another update creating such havoc.

yeah.

since most of us were working on beta-dedicated folders, i guess nobody had troubles.

but there seems to be conflicts/problems with using the L5 library in L6.

people, be careful and backup!!!

back to my original problem: did someone manage to create a project folder within the library?

even creating a dedicated "L6 Sets" folder in the (L5) Library doesn't help. the project folder when doing "save as" is always "Library".

I haven't been able to save a project inside the library. I actually thought the whole project thing was not working at all until I tried saving it to the desktop.

Then I tried saving the project as a live pack to archive it, but it failed saying the live pack is too large.
Kind of defeats the purpose of archiving and compressing your data if it fails because it is too large.

yes, this seems like a bug to me.
at least, i think it deserves some explanations from ableton, so i created another thread in the bugs and probs forum.

it is here:

shame about the live pack being too large. i agree with you, it's rather strange....

I have the same problem with creating projects under the folder "Library". It seems that the whole "Library" has become a project where I have stored all my sets from version 5. There should be a way to decategorize a folder from being a project.

Yes, i think it might be.

I renamed my Live 5 library before installing and I think it created more problems than it solved, I had to manually copy all presets from one to the other, being careful not to overwrite any updated ones. Now when I open a set that uses an Imulse preset from Live5, Live 6 says that it can't find the samples, even after pointing the search straight at the folder with the old presets. All I have to do is go to the browser and load the same preset by dragging it into Impulse and it's fixed, so it seems like more of a bug with the search.

Its going to take me a while to get my head around this new method, I never put my sets in the library, file structures are personal things.

Organising Audio and projects is quite difficult to do well, theres nothing worse than opening an old project only to find all the samples missing cos your new organised metodology doesn't work. I think I'll stick with my old method for a while.

Hi Live-Life,
You should tell ableton about this cause its gotta be bug. It makes the whole Live Packs feature completly pointless.
