impossible to create projects inside the library

Post by peeddrroo » Mon Oct 02, 2006 9:40 pm

well, maybe there's something i do wrong, but i tried everythng i could....

i'm not able to create a project when saving a set within the Library. all my sets get branded

name_of_the_set (Library) - Live 6

maybe the solution is to save my sets in a folder outside the Library, but then i wonder why there is a Sets folder then...

Hi P!

Started a new set in 6.0.1.
Save as... browsed to Library, saved as "new.als".

Don't have a clue what's your problem is.

After save, title bar says "New (Library)"

exactly conny
what i expect to have, is
New (Project New)
that's what i had during beta testing, and it made sense to me.

if i save a new set under
/My Documents/Ableton/Library/Sets/, i don't expect the project folder to be "Library".

in you example, if you save a new2.als in any folder in the library, you should still have
new2 (Library) on the main title bar.
doesn't make sense to me.

Hi peeddrroo,

your observation is correct. No projects in the Library. That said it doesn't stop you of course to put *sets* into your library (as you can put sets into projects). If you need to special projects for your sets, save them outside of your library (which gives you other advantages, e.g. per project sample collecting, anyway).

Gregor

weird.
so this means if i want to have the "Projects" feature, i have to save sets outside the Ableton/Library/Sets folder...
weird....

i can cope with it, but it's not very intuitive

Hi peeddrroo,

I depends on how you see it (I can't tell you of course, how you should see it, I only can explain to you, how we saw it). Take the Library as a big project simply. Projects can't be nested and so you can't have a project inside the Library. I won't explain you the reason for the "no nested projects" rule now however; it would fill pages :-)

Gregor

right...now i understand whats going on.

This really needs to be explained clearly somewhere :)

Because when i used the beta at first, I got projects (inside the library) and of course later got problems with live complaining about 'nested projects'. If i would have known that the library is considered as a project then the whole thing would be a lot more straightforward.

Like a lot of others i've created a L6 Sets folder in my library, after all, the L5 sets were all stored there so most would assume that its a reasonable thing to do, and like others im then left wondering why i dont get any projects.

So, just a big bit of text somewhere that states :

THE LIBRARY IS A PROJECT.
PROJECTS NOT ALLOWED WITHIN PROJECTS.

The MGT.

would be useful.

:)

now im off to organise my sets and audio drive *again*
