Help Mapping MIDI notes from a computer Keyboard

Post by noharmlessrock » Wed Oct 04, 2006 1:15 am

1. Press the Midi button and everything assignable turns blue
2. I click on a slot that I want to control
3. I get stuck ( no note gets assigned after pressing every key even readjusting the notes through the x/y keys)

From what i can tell Live refuses to recognise the keyboard as a a controller. (either in midi ports or any of the presets). So I am unable to assign notes.
I have pressed the keyboard sign (2 over from the midi) and have had no luck either. Basically I

Or

Is there any way I can use the MIDI keyboard in say Garage Band to assign these notes?

any advice would be GREATLY appreciated! thanks

yeah

i'm a little confused about what you actually want to do.

you can map things to the keyboard (not via midi) - try ctrl+k instead of +m

you can use the computer keyboard to play midi notes (activate the little keyboard icon upper right) but this does not have anything to do with subsequently using them as actual midi notes which can be mapped (?? slight chance i'm wrong about that??)

what is it that you REALLY want to do?

Trying to assign midi notes to clip slots with the computer keyboard instead of a remote midi device.

Basically trying to do a "control k" with a "control m" to assign each note.

hopefully that makes more sense

well i'm not sure that is possible - at least not without some 3rd party stuff or midi loopback -

maybe you can try routing the midi generated from the keyboard to IAC then back into live

but why not just fire the clip slots with the keyboard assignments???

Not really :?
Make sure the little "midi keyboard button" in the top right is turned OFF - Hit control-k, click the slot you want to control, hit the key on your computer, hit ctrl-k again, and your clip is assigned. Is that what you want?

send it out over the iac bus man.

when it loops back in it'll map fine, so long as you have remote and track on in the midi prefs ;)
