I was so pissed when I did the pound to $USD conversion on the cost of the MXF8 plus shipping. It comes out to something ridiculous like US$450+ for a unit that requires a bulky wall wart AC adaptor *and* a MIDI adaptor of some sort! Sorry guys, but high build quality or not, there's no way I'm paying that for a knobby box that doesn't even have MIDI + power over USB.

It kills me, too, 'cause it looks perfect for the kind of Live DJ work I'm doing lately. I understand that they're a small outfit and that drives costs up, but it's just absurd at that price.

Found some more info on the SOS site here... http://www.soundonsound.com/news?sessio ... ewsID=6797

This baby does seem to be a hell of a lot more imaginative than any other controller kicking around. The crossfader assignable channels alone are putting it straight to the top of my list regardless of price.

The devices differ by quite a long way really. The X-Session doesn't allow cross fading of up to 8 assignable channels at once, it's cross fader is a simple controller. The MXF8 fader has updateable curves as well as punch and kill buttons like a DJ mixer along with each channel having muting and soloing. The MXF8 is also a MIDI Sync master and can remotely control the tempo of software such as Live in 1 BPM increments as well as having Start/Stop control. Then there's the Ratio Sequencer which allows triggering of clips within Live on 8 channels with their offsets and looping independantly adjustable as well as their velocity. The MXF8 firmware is also updateable with newer sequencers/controller layouts and an editor for setting controller numbers for software without MIDI learn other than Live and the like. Not to mention the X-Session looks like it will fall apart in no time while the MXF8 looks built to gig and last.

I've done a fair bit of fact finding about this controller and next pay day my money is down for sure. There's nothing doing what this does around, very inventive controller/sequencer.

I'm in on this as well. It looks like it was built to work with Live to me, there's nothing around that does what this does as a controller. The dollar conversion doesn't help the pocket but I prefer to buy stuff that does what I want rather than some bit of plastic that doesn't quite do the job and falls apart just after the garuantee runs out. Being able to punch/mute n solo at gigs along with eight channel fading gets my vote regardless of cost if there isn't any other alternative around. And there isn't.

ok got my attention, is it possible to repeat that great info in a way that my midiphobia won't impede my understanding?

There's a live broadcast on 17th March and an MXF8 + Live performance & workshop on the 18th. Featuring he likes of Ben Long, Justin Berkovi, Paula Temple among other guests. Anyone near Bournemouth, England on these dates should be in for a treat.

Actually, I just did the conversion on this and the UDS price is $384.75 which when converted back into sterling is currently £214.24. So that makes the US price actually CHEAPER than the UK/Europe price (£264.38) because we don't get hammered with VAT!!!

Fair enough, fluterby. I stand by my indignant comment, though. It's still too damn much :(
