It would be great if MIDI program change commands was one of the controllers LIVE could receive.
Think about it, most synths and controllers have patch select buttons, often set out in rows of 8. This would be perfect for triggering scenes. And the patch name in the display of your synth could display the scene name.
Given that LIVE can recognise just about every other MIDI message, surely this wouldn't be too hard to implement...
cheers

Hmm. Given that we can trigger scenes easily enough from MIDI I'm not so convinced on this one BUT, if I may, if the idea was extended so that a group of clips could be remotely loaded into place with a Program Change message it would add soomething new that would be extremely useful. Failing that, remote named scenes would do I guess *mummble mutter*

i'd like to be able to map multiple items to one keystroke. it'd make it easier to transition between songs, being able to change out all your fx with one button.

Hmm... someone recently mentioned Bome's MIDI translator as a workaround for no MIDI mappability to the DELETE key. Your idea of using Program Change messages to trigger scenes in combination with Bome's to translate the messages to keystrokes (mapped to scene fire buttons) ought to do the trick.

Hello, I just bought a nice midi footpedal controller only to find that Live does not accept midi program changes!!
I'm a guitar player and don't use keyboards on stage. Seems like many people would want to use foot controllers to trigger different scenes on stage like I do! Until now, I had stolen the chip out of a USB keyboard and re-wired it to make a nice 4 button stomp box, but now I need more than four triggers per song.
Help!

if you're on a mac, use MIDIPipe to convert the program change messages to note on messages.

I'm using a Rolls MIDIBuddy that this works great with. What's really nice is that the Rolls has a built in midi-merge so I can run my FCB1010 pedals straight through it as well.

on pc, bomes midi translator or midi ox/yoke can accomplish some of these tasks. I'm not sure what foot pedal you're using, but the 1010 allows you to program patches and send multiple control change messages at once...

I just found the bomb-ass solution to using one or two midi commands (a single button press or two) to change all kinds of settings in Live at once, very useful for song changes. The answer is.......DM2!!! These little "toys" ($30 on ebay) are the shizznat! More specifically, the software that some badasses developed to convert the incoming signals from the DM2's USB into midi is spectacular. The possibilities/flexibilities are astounding. You can make one single button press send out a seemingly unlimited amount of midi control change messages. I use it to return all 20 of my send knobs back to 0 between songs--sweet. sorry mac guys, pc only. Best $30 I every spent on anything ever.
