well, actually that's the answer there too - the guy who made the comment is in all likelyhood the same race!melocoton wrote:Americans are not a race dude.Johnisfaster wrote:why is it not considered racist to talk shit about americans
I found this very inspirational.

dictionary.com says
any people united by common history, language, cultural traits, etc.
a large body of persons who may be thought of as a unit because of common characteristics.
now what was that you said about americans? seems the word applies nicely if you look past the most common uses of it.
It was as if someone shook up a 6 foot can of blood soda and suddenly popped the top.
come one dude, lighten up!Johnisfaster wrote:funknotik wrote:BinaryB wrote:
people only pick on americans because America is the biggest and loudest, and so hardest to ignore!
if you're at a party and some dude is Bigger and talks louder than everyone else, he is the one who gets noticed! (yeah shut up campers I know that would probably be me)
We could all start picking on Hoffman2k because he's belgian, but what the hell does that mean? I thought belgium was a type of sausage!

I didn't rewrite anything at all, it's not a very common use of the word but if you go to dictionary.com you will find those definitions listed in amongst the other more common uses of the word.stinky wrote:Johnisfaster wrote:funknotik wrote:
anyway, forge, I wasn't actually being that upset about it I was more trying to pose a question about the situation. I see it here constantly that people can poke jabs at americans like it's not anything at all but if i was to say something about french people good lord I'd become public enemy or something. and if I said something about african people oooooh man I'd be shot.
I was trying to pose a question thats all, and yes i was a little offended but it's not direct offense from this circumstance it's more of an accumilated offense from a continuous problem.
I've also been seeing this trend in the whole battle of the sexes type issues. women can run around making generalizations about men all they want but if we say anything generalized about women all the sudden we are a sexist. it's frustrating to say the least and I see this kind of thing happening constantly throughout my day.
oh well, sorry to butt in and highjack this thread. I'll butt out now.
It was as if someone shook up a 6 foot can of blood soda and suddenly popped the top.
it's cool, I know what you mean - but by that same token I think it totally does depend on the context - if you said anything to Peeddrroo about being french in the right way he would just laugh, but if you were obviously intending it to be offensive it might be differentJohnisfaster wrote:[

w.
I dont think the comment here was meant to be offensive and most of the Americans here would take it in the right humour and probably agree

see but thats the thing, maybe I'm reading it wrong (I'm not talking about just this thread of comments) but alot of the times I read people talking trash about americans it is only partially joking but also driven by a geniune distaste for american people. usually it's not hard to see past the joke to see that they are also quite serious. maybe I'm just not getting it cause of this whole internet thing it's hard to tell sometimes how people mean things.
I've read things like "fat lazy and dumb" on this message board. and although you're aloud to have distaste for us and yes some of us are fat lazy and dumb but to make such a statement is no different than me coming on here and making a joke about jewish people. granted "americans" isn't exactly a race in the usual sense of the word but my point stands as this is more a discussion of the hate that drives racism more than the word racism itself. my point being, the spirit of racism is alive and well and pointed at american people and somehow most of the world thinks it's ok to be that way.
again I'm not just talking about this thread of comments

it's all ok, i find it funny...just remember that most folks bitch about america and then try to look like americans, buy suv's, act like americans, and play music like americans.
ultimate irony.
