It's for blogs mainly. But there are loads of plugins that can help you make it into a site with a bunch of features.

Google "wp plugins" to see if anything suits your needs.

I use from fews years now "joomla" , It's modulable and really interressant for musicians.
go to look my page, It's old now (3 years ) but it work without problem

joomla is the way to go.. php-nuke is less secure unless you know what you're doing, and joomla is 10x easier to install and maintain...

I was once directed to "Mambo" www.mamboserver.com by a web designer mate once but I couldnt get it to work - it looked good though and was free, you might have better luck

Joomla/Mambo are a bit easier to use but dont expect to get listed on google if your site uses them, the modules for audio upload are a bit crap aswell.

Have a look www.drupal.org it'll do everything you need but will take a bit longer to get your head round.

Just like everything, you have to configure it to do what you intend. There are ways to do everything, but making a blanket statement like that about SEO is disingenuous.

Also, there are many different purposes for having a CMS, and one CMS would be better compared to others for certain things. Also, if you're researching CMSs, it's probably just better to get a host for like 5$ and try them through CPanel. You can enable and disable different CMSs through most major webhosting companies. For the non tech, it's probably an easier way to really get a feel of what type of CMS is best for your purposes.

smf forum with tinyportal cms is a very underrated combo. i think it's the easiest to install and to do small modifications to. it's layout is so logical and clean compared to the others i've tried. you should check it out.

I think that the ones I've came across the more are joomla and wordpress.
I wonder, if I want to have a site that will have several people contributing content, which one is better? let's say that there's a "photo" section, and it has a list of administrators, an "audio" section with a different list of administrators, etc, which one is better? Wordpress doesn't seem to cut it, right? Would joomla be better in that scenario?

excellent, have installed joomla on liveracks.co.uk, now am looking for a component so that users can upload files - and maybe other users can comment on them. any ideas for this component?
