hi Tomac ,

thx for your suggestion . higher cpu hit with Multicore suport switched on isn't MLAN's fault .i tried internal MacPro sound card . exactly same behaviour but what Nicson and Justin suggested in earlier replies turned out to be true .Multicore supports shows its effect when you use big number of effects , reverbs etc,. i say this after testing driving Cubese 4 which arrived today . with Cubase' 30 new VST Instruments each instruments having own Cubase reverb opened MacPro's cpu monitor was still on14% , Cubase' performance meter with MultiCore suport on -26% ,when switched off 34% .pretty impresive.(if you use that number of reverbs you have to have audio buffer on 326 in cubase though .its crazy amount of reverbs to have opened in one progect but it was for test drive reason to see how much MacPro can take., answer is awful lot .screaming fast machines they are) i still have to test Live's behaviour with similliar scenario . you will hear from me tomorrow with results

regards
B

Ok Tested Live with 25 audio tracks opened with individual Reverbs for each track , thats when MultiCore support kicked in , droped Cpu meter on 50% . i guess this concludes the thread unless somebody else has something to add .

may be so . it would be good to know Ableton's comment on this thread ?

Hello Bakuna,

there may be a few reasons for this. Is the set really blank,
i.e. the two default tracks (one MIDI onde Audio) and no devices,
as you get with a "new set"? Or do you have many but
empty tracks. Do you have MIDI feedback? Some (unused)
MIDI coming in? What if you turn MIDI off? Any background
processes running? Generally the idle CPU consumption of Live6
is slightly higher than in Live5, but we are talking about 1 or 2%
on small machines, not 10% on a MacPro.

(From what you described it looks as if you have 100
empty tracks running).

Hi Ralf ,

i forgot to mention that 96Khz that i was running MLan Audio interface at was adding a few %'s onto Live CPU Meter . by switching it down to 48 Khz i achieved 3% with only two default Project tracks . One Midi and One audio Track.nothig is running at the background . well thats better then 10% with blank project. But 0% as Tomac mentioned he achieved with MacPro is the best result so far. May be he is using good Interface ?

How much do you get if you switch to builtin audio?
Did you turn midi in off?

my point is not to find a workaround . i'm compareing Live 5 to Live 6 . with exactly same settings and hardware Live 5 was showing 1-2% with blank project Live 6 is on10% .big difference . it looks like a clear bug to me .
