I really wish people would leave the youtube videos to youtube, and focus on music and AL6 here.

he did say religious fanatics

seems like someone's a little touchy about religion.
Seems like someone is tired of OT posts by bigots. The religion is an opiate/disease thing is played out and tired... I am just tired of people pointing at the fat housewives and Pat Robertsons of the world and telling me that they represent what it means to be a Christian. There are a lot of dumb Athiests, Jews, and Muslims out there, but I don't post topics pointing them out. It is such a cop out. I don't need to bash a certain group to be cool. I am what I am, and that's it. Don't tell me I have a mental disease because I believe in a higher power. In fact, Ableton is one of the tools I use to worship that higher power.

I mean, aren't there other forums on the web that deal with this stuff? How many versions of Ableton have to come out before I can discuss the program without seeing crap posts like this? Sad that such an awesome board is brought lower by a lack of focus.... I thought the release of v6 would help, but obviously not.

This is the general forum for general topics. I have been personally affected by religious fanaticism, it is not pleasant! However, I have no problem with anyone following any religion, it is extremism that I am against. Again as someone mentioned before I said religious fanatics. There are extremists in every religion, it is not just christianity. It is the opiate of the masses whether or not you abuse that opiate is your decision.

It's unfortunate that they're the types us non-Christians hear from the most. Lately, they've become the voice of Christianity. It would be refreshing to see some moderate and/or liberal and/or intellectual Christians work their way to the front of the parade and grab the megaphone from fanatical tools like Pat Robertson.

Would you care to explain how you extrapolated THAT idea from this post?

Unless you just assume that all "people of faith" are fanatics.

Which says more about you than the poster.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, if anyone's interested in this stuff, I highly, highly recommend any of Sam Harris' books (The End of Faith is his first, and best) on the subject of religion and how it should really be considered about as relevant as Roman Gods and astrology...

There's some interesting articles on his website too ..

As a devout follower of Jupiter, I find that comment offensive.

I agree with you that it's unfortunately acceptable to bash Christians. It's a disheartening trend in Western society that it's ok to hate on any particular religion, and faithful Christians get the worst rap of all.

but...

If you look back on the previous posts, you're the first on this thread to mention the word Christian. We were ragging on a fat, loud and dogmatic idiot, NOT christians. That this ranting freak happens to be Christian is not relevant to my mockery.

I'll say (and have said) similar critical things about other religions on these very boards (and have taken a lot of heat for doing so).

Religion is the opiate of the masses!!
I'm curious - what was the woman subjected to in order to respond in such a psychotic manner? I've a feeling it wasn't anything particularly evil, perhaps some distasteful soft furnishings, but I live in hope

I was responding to the replies not the poster-- read the thread and my references to the "opiate" and "mental disease" comments. Why does a funny video post have to turn into mocking a common wordview? Thus my comments about getting rid of crap posts.

As always, internet anonymity means that you don't have to consider your own comments when making general statements about people's beliefs. Just thought I'd make a comment (for the first time, by the way) in an OT thread that had some offensive comments to well, me. This is what I get, I guess.

Have fun or whatever, it is the internet and I guess this is what it's about. But the fact remains that when I see posts like this it does annoy me that the "general" forum can be everything from videos of crazy people to genuine questions about hardware suggestions, for instance. An OT forum would go a long way in helping me avoid the idiots. I'm done bumping this thread to the top, I should have let it die. No more OT posts for me!

If you can't handle people taking the piss because you're gay/female/religious/purple don't post that you're gay/female/religious/purple.

If you actually READ the posts they referred to RELIGION. Not xianity as you immediately assumed.

So no wonder us NON religious types find the religious types so funny/annoying/terrifying. Not only do they usually not read THEIR OWN scriptures, they misread shit and think they are VICTIMS of some conspirancy against them. Do you really think GOD wants you whining and crying everytime someone talks about how irrational you are? Why do you even care? After all, "your reward comes in the next world" bro. At least let us hellbound enjoy our brief time here.
