Why is my Trigger Finger???

Post by chewy » Tue Oct 03, 2006 9:57 pm

Showing up as an "USB AUDIO DEVICE" not "TRIGGER FINGER".

It's unworking now..I have reinstalled the drivers 2 times...rebooted a bunch...

no love.

Initially when I plug it in it shows up as Trigger Finger but with a exclamation mark...and about a second later after refreshing the device manager shows up as "USB AUDIO DEVICE"

Enigma doesn't see it either.

I'm sad.

anyone got an idea?

try deleting and re-installing the drivers a couple of times and maybe before that try rolling back the drivers see if that helps

Make sure it's not plugged into a hub.

That said, my BCR always shows up as USB Audio device and it works great, sometimes the TF does too....

After about 4 driver reinstalls and 15 rebootations it seems to work again as a "Trigger Finger". Whatta stupid thing though, still only %50 of the time and it's not like I have been changing any settings along the way.

I just did the SAME thing.

I think they need a driver update or something.

Also another crazy thing is that it seems to only work on ONE USB port, my laptop has 4 in total....only works in one of them.

Would using a regular MIDI cable as opposed to the whole MIDI over USB thing guarantee me some more stability?? Anyone know??

Thank You

Are you using 2 M-Audio devices?

I had the same issue. I called M-Audio and the tech told me that this is known issue when you are using at least 2 M-Audio devices (for instance, I have Trigger Finger, Oxygen8, and Fast-Track USB)...there is a conflict in Device Manager.

It does NOT affect the performance of the Trigger Finger or the Oxygen8 though.

When in doubt, call them!

That's interesting... what was the solution?

I have the trigger finger and an O2 which would explain my issue :)

Yes I do. I have the firewire audiophile instaled. That sucker has never gave me any grief and the new drivers have been rock solid.

Each time you change the USB port the BCR is on, you gotta run the driver updater again.

I have a similar issue with my trigger finger...kit only works with one port. On a laptop. I've had odd thigns before with USB & laptops, and ultimately think it's a power issue on the laptop's USB ports. When I use a good POWERED USB2.0 hub, it works flawlessly. As does my Clavia G2, which also suffers intermittent USB problems, also except when on my powered USB hub.

So, try getting a hub that comes with a power supply.

Aghh...just another thing to carry around in my arsenal. Thank you for your help though, I will try that tommorow.

It would be cool if you could power the thing with a 12V battery for problems like these.

It does have a power connector, you should try it if you have an extra wall wort (I think it's 9V?). I needed the hub to handle the number of devices I have, so it's in my bag no matter what.

My PadKontrol won't run usb-powered on my 7-port hub, even though there are no other usb items connected. Yet on my 4 port hub it works just fine, even though it's filled. (FWIW it's a Targus)

You might not need to power the hub, maybe you just need the right one?

M-Audio recently released a new driver for all thier MIDI controllers that support Enigma (of which the TF is one). I'd highly recommend installing that new driver.

cheers,
