BCF and BCR AUTOMAP Solution!!!!!!

Post by jackobyte » Fri Oct 06, 2006 12:28 am

Here's the solution........... Set your BCF to bC mode, USB Mode 1 by holding down Edit and pressing Store then turn knob 1 all left until you see u-1, hit Exit, the screen should now display P- 1. Download MIDIOX http://www.midiox.com/zip/midioxse.exe and install it. Click Options - MIDI Devices... Select BCF2000(01) in both input and output (they will highlight blue)..... click View - Sysex..... In the new window click Command Window - Load File... browse to <LIVE 6.0.1 folder>\Resources\MIDI Remote Scripts\BCF2000 and load the preset.syx file. Click Command Window - Send/Recieve Sysex. Wait until it has completed. Open up Live 6 and set your control surface to BCF2000 and it's done!!!!!! Yeha!!!!!! The bestest cheapest controller on the market now has automap!!!

Enjoy!!

I don't have a BCR but I'm guessing that the Sysex not received by my BCF was intended for the BCR so the above should work for that too, if you have them midi'd together one send/receive should work.......

hmm didn't get it to work here. the faders update if i move them on screen, but i can't do a darn thing with the controller.

that's it for me probably, back to mackie mode which works well for me generally

Definitely works!!!

Sorry Longjohns, this definitely works. Try inserting 2 effects and a VSTi into one of the channels after you have done the setup. When you click on the VSTi, the knob values will change, when you click on the effect the knob values will change and you can use them for various controls. Haven't tried it but I am sure you will still be able to use BCF View too

ok i got it to go

i don't understand how it is useful though - the knob assignments for the vsti's i looked at were totally random - i mean this knob controls this one thing over in this corner, the next one controls something way on the other side of the synth.

any my bcfview won't display using this setup, so that is really unhelpful

seems the faders and first row of buttons remain on channel faders and rec buttons, not that it's a bad thing

if you load up a rack - its 8 macros automap to the top eight encoders on the BCF (click on the header of the rack down at the bottom, blue hand appears, eight encoders should correspond to the eight macros). load a synth into the rack and assign its conrols to the eight macros. you can save the rack by dragging tot he browser so the next time you just load the synth into the rack and its mapped.

also i found a way around using midi-ox to dump the template. i was getting the err message before. i set the BCF to either mobe u-4 (usb) or s-4 (midi) and the dump took both ways without a problem. i kept getting the err mssg using mode u-1. using another mode seemed to work for me w/o using midi-ox

so are you saying that the key to it being useful is to make rack presets for the devices you want to automap

press edit and store at the same time on the BCF/R. turn the upmost knob on the left (encoder one) to change the mode. set it to either U-4 (connected via usb) or S-4 (connected via midi cables). under the midi prefernces in live choose the BCF/R and the correct ins/outs (depending on whether you are using usb or midi. dump the template hit store on the BCF/R to save. worked for me - let me know if you have success.

Don't you just load preset 1 using the default BCR/BCR software and automap works automatically? Or am I missing something? That's what I did, and automap is automapping.

what is "default BCR/BCR software"?

Actually my preset 1 is not working since i cannot get into edit mode by pushing edit&store. But i tried to dumb in preset 8. Nothing happens in dump.

I overwrote my original preset 1 a long time ago, so I used the dump button in Live 6.0.1 to dump to preset 13 on my BCR. It worked fine, little lightshow & everything, except it duplicated 3 or 4 values from one encoder bank to the other. I had to guess what those would be & switch them back, but they weren't in a bank used for automapping anyway.

I think my BCR has 1.10 firmware (maybe) & I'm on a 1.67 PB G4 with OS 10.4.6.

I'm not sure what's supposed to be broken.

John, what mode you put your BCR when dumping?

How to reset the BCR?
