How the hell do you edit a file in an external editor in L6

Post by Chris J » Fri Oct 06, 2006 2:52 pm

Fucking hell ! :x
there used to be one button that did the trick, now you have to click endlessly and go through all your files, and write down the name of your file to edit as the display in the clip view is too fucking small to see the name entirely. And it's also too small in the replace sample files dialogue.
What a waste of time !
Why did you remove that edit button ? there's an empty space now...
if it ain't broke don't fix it. Now it's broken but I don't think you'll fix it either.

Why is it that on each version some simple things disapear to be replaced by much more complicated procedures ?

Like you used to be able to click "length" in live 3 and 4 to see your whole wave, forever gone aswell.

Oh god I assumed that the edit button was removed in the beta so that third party bugs weren't being reported as Live's!
I would have raised a ruckus if I had known they were intending on removing it.

I notice this to not just the removal fo the edit sample button theres a lot of ace functions that have been removed since version four. There is a thread asking to bring back the edit button but you will need to do a search. very few have ojected so it makes you wonder how people used to if ever edit any audio or they just prefer multiple clicks to do do the same job.

what i do is stretch the live6 window onto the second display. so that only the manage file folder is on the 2nd display all the time (i made this a template). it works well but I have my taskbar on top so everytime live starts with that template the live window is underneath the taskbar and i have to drag it a centimeter or so down.
otherwise i have to close the manage file folder each time which takes too much time lol. nevertheless we want the edit and replace button back!

duhhh...beavis...that sucks... :x
Turn up the radio. Turn up the tape machine. Look into the sunset up ahead. Roll the windows down for a better taste of the cool desert wind. Ah yes. This is what it's all about. Total control now.

I started a thread in the Feature Wishlist requesting that the edit button be brought back or at least see if they can find a more elegant solution to the one we now have in Live 6.

Please feel free to add any comments on the new (less good) way of editing samples in the
Improve the Manage Sample File or bring back the Edit button thread:

Agreed that removing the edito button from the Clip properties was not the best thing to do.

However, if you go to File > Manage Files, and then on the right panel, you click on Manage Set, you'll see all the samples associated with the set, which you can then Edit. I think with v.6, the Abes went toward a more project management methodology with respect to the samples used in a song or a project, and that's why there's a centralized place to collect and edit samples.

Again, I wish they had kept the edit button, and I also miss the dialog that asks me to remove unused files when I quit a project. Bummer...

I haven't had much time to jump into Live 6, but yeah...what's up with getting rid of the edit button? That's a lot of needless clicking to get to an editor....

Agreed...Bring the edit button back to clips...

It's not gone, it's just moved to an inconvenient place for no good reason.
