Yep! twas me. I used to design all the poster and flyers for a club on Quark Xpress white & grey that's it/ Like this forum looks. When Logic was 2.5 on system 7 on the Mac it looked brilliant, white and grey, totally functional & boring, nice if you make music for 18 hours in a row like me.
Same if you do accounting on a spreadsheet: Totally boring functional grey look.

Live's got it half right it's 2d and very functional in it's layout. Can we have a boring skin please? That would very much excite me!

(I am close to hacking one myself like I did for KarmaFX you know....) :)

Hi all! Thanks so much for the positive support. More skins are on the way...

There has been no word from Ableton about the editor, so I assume they don't want it released.

djsynchro - I tried to make subtle pretty boring. But I'll try to make something will even less color saturation, variety, and contrast.

mooncaine - Actually you could use the editor. It works on both Mac classic and Mac OS X. Though it isn't available as a universal binary (yet). Thanks for the specific suggestion!

Poster - Thanks for the tech support :)

headquest - That very well might be part of their business strategy. Who knows?

Stay tuned for more skins and tutorials @ SonicTransfer.com.

Happy Producing!

You could make a seperate app that used the skin editor, and if it happened to work on Live, then oh well, the Abes don't have patents on the file format. ;)

Cheers Matt - looking forward to more skins!

Just an idea (not sure this would look good at all) but a wasp-like yellow (with black) skin might be an interesting diversion...!

Also some other variations on the Modern Red one.

A small point about a couple of the earlier ones you did - I think on one or two or them it is hard to make out automation curves in Arrangment View - white envelopes against a white waveform. I use automation a lot in the Arrangment... I'm glad that in most of them this is not a problem 8)

Favourites so far: Military Grade, Modern Red, Halloween, Lavender, busys fetish 1.

Cheers again!

I don't think that it's about how he can release it and not getting sued..
It's about Ableton saying 'you may release it'...

1st of all: You rock! Subtle is too dark though. It needs to look like the manual does in the Adobe acrobat reader white, light grey black lines and little hints of colour. (or color if you're American).

Can I paint over a screengrab with photoshop & send it to you so you know what i mean?

Great skins! Thanks!

Let's make a petition to "force" ableton to allow the release of this great app.

Right, they don't have to condone it, just say they won't support it. :)

Huh? Why should a skin editor violate the EULA? (Also couldn't find any reference to that in the other thread...)

I CREATED MY OWN SKIN SO I CAN SEE THE WAV FORMS WHEN I PLAY OUT. TO DO THIS I HAD TO REVERSE ENGINEER A SKIN.

Do you think Ableton will revoke my license?

This fear that Ableton is going to crack the whip and start revoking licenses is lame. The idea that why would try criminalize it lacks depth completely. Does anybody actually believe that they would take legal action against paying customers that seek to customize the skin? The SKIN!!! Pleeeeease! I saw one person scared that just opening a skin file in an editor might have voided their license. Far out.

I would assume there are legal implications preventing them from publicly saying it's OK because it is technically reverse engineering. If they support some sort of EULA violation they would likely lose legal rights to enforcing their EULA all together.

People should focus on the skins, not legal issues. And that person with the editor should release it.

Enjoy life -- don't live in constant fear.

Assuming this is true...

Someone said Ableton "allowed" the skins as long as you didn't tell anyone how you made them. :? This seems illogical. They "allow" n people to reverse-engineer a file format (who undoubtedly come up with minor variations to that format and are probably just lucky that it works) INSTEAD of just either saying NO altogether or publishing the format or an editor. I doubt any ONE person (outside of the Abes) knows the complete format and feels completely comfortable with their rogue skins regarding compatibility, etc.

In reality...an editor isn't even REALLY needed...just the ability to change the colors of basic items  (via the preferences) would suffice. Calcium is the closest "best" skin for me...that's what I use...but I wouldn't mind tweaking it a bit...like that awful bright green. 8O
